Hey Guys,

I haven't posted in awhile (as long as I haven't vaped) but I'm going to explain what's going on.

I've had Acid Reflux issues for about 4-5 years (I'm 23 now) and I am taking a cheaper version of Nexium to help control it.

In January I picked up an e-cig (510 from HappyVaper), some VG USP 99.5% a few flavors and some nicotine. I got them all, and decided to make up a batch without nicotine, just to see how it would go, it smoked great, tasted amazing (french toast flavor) and I vaped it for a bit (not longer than a normal cig) but when I went to sleep I got pretty heavy acid reflux. I'm no stranger to the acid reflux that hits when I lay down, so I got up, grabbed a few crackers to eat, and took another Nexium (which normally mellows out my reflux with some water) but when I tried to go to sleep again it was still there.

I ended up falling asleep sitting up but when I awoke around 5am my stomach was on fire, I ended up throwing up and had some pretty bad ........ both of which lasted the entire weekend. After that weekend I didn't vape, or smoke for several months, but have since started smoking analogs again.

I would like to try vaping again, as for the (extremely) brief time I did it, it was very enjoyable. However, I would really like to do my best to avoid this from happening again.

From reading the posts on this site, I have found that there are a lot of people facing Acid Reflux and a few other digestive issues, some of which are apparently caused by VG. Anyway, to try and wrap this up so I can go to bed, this is what I've gathered so far to avoid it:

-Switch to PG
-Make sure I'm not vaping for too long
-Lower nicotine (not an issue, as mine won't have nicotine)
-Try a different inhaling method (just get the vapor into the mouth and then exhale through the nose)
-Keep hydrated

If anyone else has any other information regarding the best way for me to go about this, that would be awesome. Also, if it does happen again, any advice for mellowing my stomach down would be great, I tried the normal things like Pepto, which came immediately back up.

Sorry for the long post, hopefully it makes sense, it's almost 2am and I'm really tired.

Print out a list of e-liquid contents and take it to your doctor... I was popping a dozen Tums tablets each week while I was a smoker. Since I switched to vaping I barely need it. We're all different, and everyone's body reacts differently. Your doctor will know more.

Good luck, and do let us know how it turns out!

First, keep a journal of everything you use and how it affects you. It all runs together after awhile if you don't.

Minimize your ingredients. It's not fun but it's really the only way to identify the culprit.
Since you already have it, did you try vaping straight VG? I would try it and see if it might be the flavoring. I can't imagine what is in "french toast" flavoring.
Then try straight PG. Find a vapor producing base that you can tolerate before experimenting with flavors.
You might start with less complex flavorings. Consider trying natural flavorings. Velvet vapors has natural flavorings without artificial colorings.

Accept that vaping might not be for you. You don't have to make it work. It may not. I wouldn't want to take a Big Pharma product so I could vape a questionable product to avoid a Big Tobacco product. You could always explore the smokeless tobacco options to get away from the analogs.

Patience and best of luck.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

When I vaped I tried mixing my own flavors with PG and flavors that I bought, and it's possible that I made a poor mixture. This morning I went to HappyVaper and picked up a strawberry pre-mixed flavor (PG) and I bought a new atty just to be safe.

I won't force vaping until it works, that is good advice, but I'm willing to give up if it doesn't work for me. Also, I take the medicine everyday anyway, so I'm not taking it just to vape.

I do have another question though, what is the primer that is on an atomizer? I have blown it out as much as possible, but just for my own knowledge, what is it?

Thanks again guys, I will update this post after I try it.

EDIT: FMX: If this does give me the same feeling I will check with my doctor about the ingredients and see if we can figure out what the issue is.

Hey you guys, just throwing this out there. I stick with natural remedies as much as I can and I found that a swallow of red wine vinegar at night works wonders for acid reflux. It will burn for a couple seconds and then neutralize the acid in the stomach. Maybe try it out?

That's an interesting solution. How much is a "swallow"? Like a shot (1oz)? Or more just like a sip?

I will check it out though, thanks.

So I tried the red wine vinegar before I started to vape, because I wanted to make sure that the vinegar didn't hurt my stomach. It did seem to cure the mild acid reflux I was feeling, however it burned my throat pretty good lol, felt like I was drinking 151.

Anyway, I have started to vape, and so far so good, the real test will be when I go to sleep tonight, I'll post up again tomorrow morning and let you guys know

Well, a little success, I'm glad. Yes, it does burn at first! And it seems totally upside down, but it does work. Good Fortune, lickwid.

Well, it's the morning, I slept pretty well, with minimal acid reflux symptoms, and no stomach problems, so we are looking good!

I am going to slowly continue to add other things into the mix (nicotine, other flavors) but I will probably leave VG alone for now, and only try it again if I have nothing to do for an entire weekend.

The juice I have now has no nicotine in it, so I will create a very low nicotine batch and give it a try today. I'll update this post for each "experiment" I try

I too have acid reflux and take generic nexium. I vape a 50/50/ PG/VG 24 mg mixture, usually from Tasty Vapor although I sometimes brew my own. Since I stopped analogs and started vaping 11 months ago, my reflux has improved to the point that I actually ate raw onion this week. Are you careful to take the nexium on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after eating?

Normally I take it about 15-30 minutes before I eat, but I will try changing when I take it and keep you posted.

As for my experiments, I was vaping yesterday with my strawberry PG from HappyVaper with a Nicotine mix that (if my math is right) is cut down to 6mg, and I didn't notice any excessive problems with my acid reflux, and my stomach feels just fine.

For now I'm going to blame VG for my issues, and post back if anything else comes up, thanks again ECF!
