I recall reading a couple threads from mooch doing bench tests on the 21700 battery and the results were impressive. I haven't seen any mods on the market that takes these batteries beside from the Geekvape Aegis and the new upcoming Ijoy Capo 100. Oh and probably custom mods too.

Saw this graph from HG thread. Showing it's 35% more capacity than an 18650. Ijoy website saying it's equivalent to a Dual 18650s. If i can get the same capacity as a dual 18650s (or close to) in a single battery and it's not as fat/big as a 26650 then that would be awesome.
Should I stop stocking up on 18650s and start looking into getting some 21700s for future-proof?
Is it worth upgrading to these new batteries or is it too early to tell?

Looks like the same mAh as a good 18650? My 18650s are 3000mah. Plus you'll be limited in the amount of mod's out there that fit that size battery.

All(most) of my 18650s batteries at LG Chocolate (HG2) so yeah they're all 3000mah which will be the same mah as the 21700. So I don't know how much benefit I'll get from upgrading. I'm just wondering if there will be a lot more mods coming out specifically for 21700 which has options to use 18650s as well.
Also I've got a 3D printer so im just trying to see if I should change my design to fit a 21700 instead of the 18650. That is if 21700 is the way forward...

I can't see much benefit in them tbh. I suppose someone can chime in with the tech details but for a normal vaper, I don't think they'll be much difference. It'll mean the mod's will have to be bigger to accommodate them.

It's much better for very low ohm's though, currently the only batteries that can pull 30A are similar to LG HB6's and can only hold 1600mah so for people vaping i 30A+ these can double their capacity more or less.

Based on what I've seen from 20700/21700 battery tech it's pretty safe to say we'll see 20A 4100mah-4300mah 20700/21700's in the near future so for minimal size increase they'll be a decent mah increase. keep in mind they aren't really that much bigger... 2mm wider, 5mm longer, many mods currently on the market already have void spaces that could accommodate them.

Look at it this way.. a lot of people want a triple 18650 mod even though they vape under 60w so they can have better battery life, now look at the 4800mah Samsung 48G, if you had two of those in a dual 21700 mod and if you kept your watts below 60w you could have as much mah if not more than a triple 18650 mod but in a smaller sized case making it more portable.

A lot of people think they are more for the sub ohm, mech market but they could really place a key roll in the middle of the market as well...

Well I have about 20 LG chocolate and more than half have been in and out of mods and cycling through charge. Not sure how much life span they have left. I'm a lazy charger and always like to have several sets ready to use so if I can reduce some clutter and the number of batteries that I need to charge would be nice lol.

Also I think it would be much safer in mech mods with the higher CDR. Especially for new Vapers. There's just too many different types of 18650s out there and some just don't do their research before hand and end up getting a mech mod and then "accidents" happen because they're on low ohms pushing the batteries limit. 21700 might provide a bit of a safety leeway.

I'm interested more for capacity than anything else (regulated only user here)
Yea I'm regulated too. Battery safety's not really an issue for us as much as mech users. And I get good battery life as it is with my mods so not really ready to switch over all my batts just yet [emoji41]

Having a 30A/3,000 mAh battery is great, as is a higher capacity 20A. However changing over to them means changing a whole bunch of mods that I doubt will be simply upgraded with a new battery cap, and changing all my mods just for that doesn't work for me. New mods down the road I might pay a little attention to the form factor, but it still won't be a solo selling point to justify a buy.

Yeah, it's not feasible to start changing over now but i wonder how the market will be in the next 6-12 months.
(Hypothetically speaking) If the manufacturers starts releasing more and more 21700 mods which also accommodate for 18650 & 20700 then it may seems inevitable that it may become the standards in the future. The mod itself shouldn't be much bigger than a mod made for the 18650. They could even just release only 21700 mods and force the vape community to start using 21700 as it's the "new" and "improved" way to go forward. I don't know *shrug* just thinking out loud...

I personally don't think it will happen (not any time soon anyway but i could be wrong :) - will check this thread in 6-12months).
