21700/18650 Li-Ion external charger recommendations 2023 (high output charge current options)

Hi all,

I’m in the market for a replacement external Li-Ion cell charger. I’m currently using the Nitecore Q2 which I’ve been using without issue since 2019. This is a 2-bay charger that outputs 4.2V and allows 2A charging for once cell, or 1A charging for two cells. I would like to upgrade the charger to a 4-bay unit that allows for manual adjustable charging current (+/- milliamp) along with general cell and charging display information.

I am normally cycling in use 2x Samsung 30T 21700 cells, and 2x married pairs of Molicel P28A 18650 cells. Both of these cells are high capacity and high amperage, and both manufacturer’s data sheets, along with Mooch’s battery charge current rating table, confirm relatively high charging current rates (standard charge rate).

21700 - Samsung 30T (35A, 3000 mAh)
Charging rates:
  • MaxLife Rate 0.75A
  • Standard Rate 1.5A
  • Rapid Fast Rate 4A
18650 - Molicel P28A (25A, 2800 mAh)
Charging rates:
  • MaxLife Rate 1A
  • Standard Rate 2.8A
  • Rapid Fast Rate 8.4A
So ideally I’m looking for a charger capable of charging at a charge rate split across all 4-bays of 1.5A if I plan to charge say 2x 18650’s & 2x 21700’s. I was looking at the Nitecore SC4 which is capable of 1.5A over 4-bays simultaneously, but apparently the SC4 is not compatible with 21700 cells for some stupid reason.

Are there any recommendations from the community for a 4-bay charger that can allow for 1.5A or higher across all bays simultaneously?

Cheers!

Take a look at the MiBoxer C4-12 charger. It takes 21700's. Charges up to 3A over 4-bays simultaneously. Rate is user selectable from 0.10A - 3A.

It will charge many types of batteries.

I've had mine since mid 2019. It's an excellent charger. Like many on ECF I own several chargers. IMHO the C4-12 stands head and shoulders above all the rest. I would not hesitate to purchase another one.

Thanks for your reply. I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews on-line about this one, specifically QC issues.
I'll keep it in mind and add it to the list of potentials. Currently looking at the Vapcell S4 series which offer the same 6A total output.

Just out of curiosity, has Mooch added a recommended battery charger list?

I know a couple other ECF members who also own a MiBoxer C4-12 charger. They love it. I know others who have it on Facebook and they also like it. FWIW, I've never heard of anyone having issues or problems with theirs.

Never heard of the Vapcell S4 charger and I don't know of anyone on ECF who has one.

There are 2 different versions of the Vapcell S4 Plus. If you purchase one, you want the v2. See the attached file for the differences (they're also noted in the link below).

Mooch has reviewed many battery chargers. He does not have a recommended charger list.
