20 drops = 1ml (that don't work out so good as far as I'm concerned) !

FYI ...

Disclaimer ... Different viscosities of the liquid your measuring out by the drop will make a slight difference when using drops to measure a given ml of fluid, but the difference isn't very much at all between a low viscosity to a high viscosity fluid (but, there is in fact a slight difference).

With that said, I did a little testing today. I used a test liquid made of plain glycerin and water that made a viscosity pretty much equal to the viscosity of your normal flavoring that you would use to flavor your DIY juice. (not watery thin, but certainly not real thick either)

I found out that 24 drops equaled 1ml of fluid. This is contrary to the standard of 20 drops per ml that I read about all the time.

That extra 4 drops in a ml don't seem like much, but when you measure out 6ml or more of flavoring by the drop, it makes a pretty big difference in the total amount (and flavor).

I am no chemist, but 24 drops to the ml is much closer in real life than 20 drops to the ml.

And so is life! :)

Well, the flavor extracts that I have been using are PG based, so there fairly thin in viscosity, but measuring 20ml worth of fluid (that's a lot of drops), 24 was just about perfect when using a medical-grade graduated cylinder for the measurement.

I just used the little plastic nipple end that comes with the semi-clear plastic bottles when you buy juice, when measuring the drops in my test ... (no actual glass eye-dropper)

That's what I use anyway when I am measuring small amounts of flavorings ... so I figured that I would use the same kind of dropper that I would normally use all the time ... makes sense

The whole drop debate is mute if you measure by ml or weight. Measuring by drop is about as inaccurate a way to measure as you can get. Droppers vary by bottle. Some droppers will drop 20 drops per ml others will drop 25 others 30 and I've even seen some drop up to 40 drops per ml. If you want to measure accurately use syringes or measure by weight. with a 1ml syringe you can get as accurate as 1/20th of a ml. drops are OK for a quick 1 or 2 drop add but anything more is best measured by ml.

By my testing with disposable pipettes no two drops are the same. I can suck up 1ml in my 5ml pipettes and count a different number every single time. The smaller 1ml pipettes might be more accurate as may glass droppers. This is why I use a Syringe for everything but a few drops. And I have dropper caps on my 8ml vials that I refill so if I just need a pinch of sweet or whatever it makes things simple.

I completely agree. I've used so many droppers over the past two years, I've lost count. They all vary, though none of them have come close to 20 drops / ml. I've averaged 35-52 drops per ml and higher. That's a broad average, though with varying droppers, there's really no standard. Measuring by the ML using a syringe, for me, is the most accurate as long as you're using decent syringes with accurate markings.

If you need precision measurements, by weight is probably the best though you'll need a scale that is capable of weighing smaller amounts unless you're always making larger bottles of e-liquid, in which case you can grab pretty much any scale.

Last time I measured distilled water, I still came in over 20 drops / ml, so I'm honestly not sure why that is what most refer to as a standard. If all measuring tools used that as a standard, I'd understand, but I've yet to consistently see it.

Before I seen this post, here is what happen.
Just got a 1ml syringe. Recipe called for 1.2ml or 24 drops. Dripped into syringe 24 drops with my finger over the end, no needle...
Could not believe my eyes  :?:    :( a little over .5 point five!!! Speechless. Stop in tracks.

I would use a pip or 5ml syringe to measure ml's for PG VG nic then flavor by drops.

This changes everything. Like DIY from scratch what little time I got in. What does this say about the recipes I made.
Some were good some not. Holy...
