Which Core Diameter To Use For Alien Staple Coils?

So, say I wanna make a 6x0.8 alien staple coil. Or a 10x0.3. Or a 6x0.5. Or a framed 7x0.4...
How do I figure out which gauge core wire I should wrap the initial Clapton around?

The last one I did was 26g frame 6x .5 ribbon I just claptoned 26g but it was also 40g wire I was using but came out like it was suppose to
