Found this while surfing a bit ago and it peaked my interest.

Dou Kani, the chief executive of Power Japan Plus, pushes what looks to be a standard lithium-ion battery across a conference table, the type of battery that powers everything from $30 flashlights to $90,000 electric cars. Except the silver cylinder contains no lithium. Nor any expensive rare earth metals. It won’t catch fire if punctured. And unlike lithium ion batteries, it can be charged and discharged thousands of times without losing its energy capacity, its creator claims. Oh, and Power Japan Plus’ battery also generates more power than a lithium battery and can charge 20 times as fast.

If this comes to fruition, we could be looking the future of our batteries. No more explosion fear mongering, they'll have find something else!

We've heard all these miraculous breakthroughs before. Then, the petroleum industry suddenly gets "interested" and this wonderful technology just seems to go away... never to be heard of again. Imagine that. :D

Yeah, but if the Chinese can get their hands on it before that happens, there's not much the petroleum industry can do about it. Even Joye can't seem to stifle the copying and mass production of their products. ;)
