Lately, there have been stories that vaping affects your cholesterol levels (in a negative way). I was just curious if there was any evidence to this or if it's another fear mongering tactic going on now? I google the subject and was shocked with all of the articles that popped up about it.

Lately?

This has been going on for years, heard it all.
From webbed feet to color blindness and even problems to men when it comes to the well you know bed room activities.
My advice, ignore any news that have anything negative to say about vaping,if a vet user from here posts something about it and i mean a real vet forum member who knows his stuff then yeah maybe start worrying.

Until then you will lead a better life just tuning out and treat vaping negative comments and studies like white noise.

You've been vaping for what... at least 12 years???

Do you have medically diagnosed problems with your cholesterol levels???

I've been vaping since 2012 and get yearly blood tests done. Over the last 11 years my cholesterol levels (LDL/HDL) have been normal.

If your LDL/HDL levels are in the normal range - - - you have nothing to be concerned about. If your levels were abnormal your doctor would likely have prescribed a medication for you.

When it comes to medical information, the internet is not "exactly" your friend. Unless you are a doctor who knows exactly what he/she is looking for. Yes, there is very sound and accurate medical information on the internet (tons).

However, when a non-medical person is trying to diagnose or research something (other than the basics) forget the internet. At least until one actually has a sound medical diagnosis from a doctor or specialist. But even then, use caution.

Common sense. ;)

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize that had come up before. My therapist had mentioned it to me earlier today from a recent article. I assumed this was the latest fear mongering. My total Cholesterol is 172, my HDL is normal but my LDL is slightly elevated at 107 (but that's probably because I'm overweight). Sorry for the confusion, I honestly hadn't heard about this before today. Yes, I started vaping mid 2011.

No need to be sorry. You didn't know and so you asked. :)

Perhaps your therapist was referring to information in one of the following articles or maybe something else entirely.

I do think that to say vaping can not affect ones cholesterol is wrong. Each person is different. Vaping can affect people in different ways.

I mean, you know, no one ever said vaping is 100% healthy. Healthier than smoking, I believe so. The UK and New Zealand say vaping is better for people than smoking.

Yes I agree. I'm trying to change my diet and exercise more, to hopefully get my LDL below 99 again. I see a lot of these articles were back in 2019, etc.

I do know that vaping does not make you lose weight the way cigarettes do. This I understand has mostly to do with the bases. To waaay oversimplify it VG is more or less “flipped” karo syrup, so vaping VG is not calorie free the was cigarettes are. It’s the equivelant of more-or-less pure sugar though, so it shouldn’t unless sugar does too. I don’t think it does really. If it does vaping a 30ml bottle of juice shouldn’t be much more damaging than a single medium coca-cola classic at the drive-thru. One of the things that is apparently common as a scare tactic is if something is detectable at all it’s an “issue” while the fact that it is a vanishingly small amount is not mentioned.
