NSDUH finds 15% decline (from 6.6% to 5.6%) in “past month” cigarette smoking by youth (ages 12-17) from 2012 to 2013, and a 43% decline (from 9.9% to 5.6%) from 2007 to 2013 (as sales of e-cigs skyrocketed), disproving fear mongering claims by Obama’s FDA and CDC that e-cigs are gateways to cigarette smoking. Cigar use declined 46% (from 4.3% to 2.3%) from 2007 to 2013 (also in contrast to CDC claims).

NSDUH finds 3.6% decline (from 22.1% to 21.3%) in “past month” cigarette smoking by Americans aged 12 or older from 2012 to 2013, and a 12.3% decline (from 24.3% to 21.3%) from 2007 to 2013 (as sales of e-cigs skyrocketed), disproving fear mongering claims by Obama’s FDA and CDC that e-cigs renormalize smoking. Cigar use also declined 9.6% (from 5.2% to 4.7%) from 2012 to 2013. http://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/NSDUHresultsPDFWHTML2013/Web/NSDUHresults2013.pdf (Figure 4.1 on page 47)

Wait for it... The press release is likely to contain some fear mongering mambo jumbo about gateways, youth, flavors, children, and/or "not enough research".

Otherwise, these stats are remarkable. It looks like the long term year-to-year decline has been accelerating in the past few years, quite possibly because of ecigs.

But we already know what the response will be from the ANTZ and the "public health" gestapo: "These numbers confirm the great strides we have made toward reducing youth smoking, and they underscore the urgent need for strong regulation of electronic cigarettes, which have the potential to lure young people into a lifetime of nicotine addiction and reverse the progress we have made toward realizing our goal of a tobacco-free society."

Lol... and it puts them in a bit of a bind by 1) wanting to take credit - which they can't really and 2) wanting to show a 'gateway' which if true, invalidates their work :D This is the type of quandary they create for themselves by lying so much.

It's the same type of thinking you'll often see from religious zealots, taking all the credit when good things happen and accepting none of the blame when bad things do.
