Hello everyone:

I'm going back to South East Asia for the first time in over four years. The last time I was there I was a smoker. Now I'm a vaper, but I'm kind of worried about using my PV in South East Asia. I'm specifically traveling through Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, in that order.

One thing that worries me is the lack of knowledge that people have about e-cigs in the above mentioned countries. In Vietnam and Thailand, especially in smaller towns, a local may call the police because they see a foreigner doing something that they believe to be strange (i.e. using an e-cig which they might think is an illegal drug). Then the police show up. What worries me most is that the police, also not knowing anything about an e-cig, will have a reason to detain me and cause me delays. In another case scenario, especially anywhere in Cambodia, that the police will use this as an excuse to extort money from me. At least I could get out of this situation quickly. In Thailand and Vietnam, this could just equal unreasonable delays. Local police, especially in the provinces where there are no 'tourist police', will have to call the 'tourist police' (one from a bigger city who can speak English), to come and sort the confusion, which could equal a day or two of sitting in a jail cell and would essentially ruin the trip.

The only solution I can think of is to get a couple of smaller pvs, like an Ego, to take with me when I'm out and about, and only use big mods in the hotel rooms. That might help to minimize possibilities of issues. I don't think it will completely eliminate it because I'll still have to carry bottle of liquid around to fill a carto up, since my tank will be in a lock box in the hotel with the big mod.

I've seriously also considered giving up vaping all together. I originally started e-cigs to help me from smoking. Now I don't smoke any longer and it's been over three years. This might be a good opportunity for my to quit everything once and for all. But I don't know how well that will work out as I've never actively tried to stop vaping, let alone on a vacation when I'm trying to enjoy myself.

I can't think of any other solutions, nor do I have any experience with vaping in developing countries. Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, comments, or suggestions?

Not knocking your travel plans, but I don't think I'd like to find myself ANYWHERE in those regions. For any reason. Unless I had Rambo as a guide...

That's too bad, you're awfully limiting yourself to some of the most beautiful parts of the world. And that's coming from someone who lived in South East Asia for almost five years.

Pity, you're missing some of the friendliest people in the world and one of the most beautiful regions in the world.

E-cigs are used in some of those countries - there is a mechanical mod that is quite popular in Asia right now. I just bought a mod from a vendor in Thailand. So there are definitely some vapers over there. I'd pack a cheap mod and an ego size and if asked I'd say its an electronic cigarette. And like anywhere I'd be discreet some places if I thought it the better way to go.

I'd like to say that I'm not terribly worried about anything being confiscated through border crossings, even though it is always a possibility. I think the best thing to do is to get a couple of egos, which look more like cigarettes, still have a decent battery life, and won't stick out like a sore thumb like my Provari. My Darwin will stay at home. I'll keep my Provari to vape in hotel rooms, resorts, casinos, and other places which cater to tourists and their strange Westerly ways. :)

Have you considered getting a Blu or other similar setup just to use on your travels? This might help to avoid any unwanted issues as they are cigarette shaped and size comparison. Just take along some extra batteries. The cig-a-likes I have tried batteries never last to long. And you can discreetly change the carto and battery without anyone seeing you.

That's my dilemma entirely. The 510 batteries that most look like cigarettes don't last long at all. I've been using big mods for so long I'm not sure if there are any advancements technology wise. Is there a small sized pv that has a longer lasting battery nowadays? I know two Egos would last me an entire day. Any particular vendors that you would recommend? I've got a box full of 510 cartos, so that's not a problem. I just need a couple tips, batts, and a charger.

I'm pretty sure there are 650 mah egos that fire at a fixed 3.7 that are palmable. But this also raises the question: do you want to look sneaky? It draws more attention than an 808 or a cig-a-like, IMO.

If I were you, and I'm most definitely not, I would just stock up on a bunch of Volt batteries, a PCC, my usb wall charger (will they even plug in where you're going? Sorry for my ignorance), and do my best to stay incognito. But that's just what I'd do...
