State Legislature passes smoking ban | detnews.com | The Detroit News

My boyfriend read this and had me read it. Obviously, I had a problem with it. He said, "Why? You don't smoke anymore". Don't you just hate it when someone's opinions immediately change because something no longer applies to them? One of my sisters, an ex smoker, is like that. She's now a total anti and claims that cigarette smoke "bothers her and makes her feel sick" even though she smoked for at least 15 years. I'll never be like that.

What will come next? My prediction: taxes on pop and fast food. This is ridiculous. Business owners should have the CHOICE of whether or not to allow smoking, just as a consumer has the CHOICE whether or not to be a patron of an establishment.

Yes, I vape now and I don't smoke. I realize other states have already pulled this nanny state crap, but this legislation was killed and now resurrected and passed. Two words: PURE CRAP.

I guess I haven't/didn't smoke long enough, because I don't have a problem with the smoking ban for the most part... Though I think there should have been a bar exception, I mean booze and tabacco just go so well together, lol. Though I haven't had a pv/booze test run yet (guess I don't drink enough either, haha). We'll see though, new years is around the corner!

Do any of you know if this applies to vaping? I know the one in NJ did.

Another thing that bothers me is that I believe this will result in more lost jobs. I have some friends who have not yet quit smoking (I'm showing them my PV every chance I get), and they have already been planning on revolving which person's house they go to for watching sports, instead of meeting at a bar. I mean, why pay $3 a beer and not be able to enjoy a smoke if you can pay $6 for a six-pack and meet at someone's house instead? This will not only effect the bar's sales, but all the people that work there, including bartenders and wait staff. I know a few people that got laid off from office jobs that are doing that to make the bills. Now what will they do?

Hi, I'm new here. It was the recent legislation that convinced me to start vaping. The federal tax hike on tobacco has caused all the brands I used to roll to stop exporting to the U.S. (Gauloises, Stokkebye, Bali Shag and even Drum) and the upcoming statewide ban forces me to find an alternative.
I haven't had a ciggie since the 9th and don't plan on going back to tehm, but the ban still irks me. I will vape in restaurants. I will vape in bars. I will vape in church(done it already) And I will take great glee informing goose stepping pink lungs that I am not polluting or endangering them.
