I am ordering this Mech mod from fast tech but only have unprotected 18650 batteries.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/1432602

If I install these "WH-18560B 2A Protective Circuit Board for 18650 Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack)" in my Mech Mod with unprotected batteries, I will be safe...correct?

https://www.fasttech.com/products/1225101

Where do these go in my Mod? On the top or bottom of the battery?

Lastly, Fast Tech sells three different Protected Circuit Boards. Does anyone understand the difference and/or recommend which one I should get???

I would question using any unprotected Li Ion battery in a mod. Some of the batteries being sold by FastTech are Cr Ion and Ni Ion and should not be used in a mod even with protective circuits. Batteries are not the kinds of things you should be bargain hunting for if you are truly concerned about your safety.

The battery guru's on ECF are stating that IMR batteries should be favored over protected Li Ion for all applications for mods. They are inherently safer than Li Ion and do not need further protection, although I would never argue with someone using a Vape Safe in addition to an IMR for an extra layer of protection. They may vent gas if hard-shorted, but IMRs will not typically vent hot flames or possibly explode in a mod like an Li Ion could. If you must use a Li Ion battery, use some type of add-on protection circuit:

That board has no pins for the battery, so youd have to solder them on yourself from what I can see.

If you want to vape safely listen to Baditude. And think of IMR batteries like life insurance. Look up some vids on Youtube of li ions exploding. Its violent, and full of flame, sparks, and molten battery liquid. IMRs are much safer, and tend to just vent hot gas (an ice pack is better than the hospital). In a perfect world ICR batteries work, and the chance of blowing up on your is slim to none if you arent careless. Personally i use nothing but IMR in any large battery mods, and am very cautious with ego batts and cigalikes, no knock off batts or chargers, and only charge when im awake and nearby.

Also, Baditude, you should have a sticky of all of your recommendations. Keeping us vapers safe. Thanks

There's a common misconception that "unprotected" is synonomous with IMR (LiMn) safe chemistry. That is not true, as there are unprotected Li Ion batteries being sold alongside protected Li Ion and IMR Li Mn batteries at FastTech. Any Li Ion chemistry battery must have "protected" in the product description to be considered worthy of use in a mod.

IMR (Li Mn) batteries are also often called "unprotected", safe chemistry, and high drain. In effect, there's a huge difference between an unprotected Li Ion and an unprotected IMR. Learn and understand the difference in chemistry.
________

Those "circuit boards" were not designed for use in a mod. Who knows if they would work for our intended purpose? I personally would not rely on one of those.

Vape Safe Mod Fuses are designed for use for mods. They go on the bottom of the battery via magnet.

"Lithium ion batteries, while generally described as "safe," have been known to vent hot gasses and in some cases, explode. The leading cause of a venting battery is a hard short. The Vape Safe is a mechanical fuse that trips if it senses a short in the mod by shutting down the battery. The Vape Safe can also help protect variable voltage circuitry, hot springs and other circuitry inside your mod that can be damaged in the case of a hard short. If the Vape Safe Protection Circuit is triggered your mod will cease to operate. This Fuse will reset and is reusable," Vape Safe Mod Fuse available at RTD Vapor

Ok, I have a question and don't feel obligated to go out of your way to answer, folks. But I'm in possession of 3 different "versions" of the 2cents for safety fuse. One ends with HD 'cause it's for higher powered mech's? Then another I imagine is the throwaway version, and lastly a reusable version. Like what the? fyi, I bought them from epipesmods and rtd.

ETA: apologies for mixing up the names
