Why Altria's Dividend Is Very Safe

It makes the point that the better tobacco shares are a safe investment with good income. Can't really argue with that.

Also, that:
- tobacco corporations are diversifying into smokeless tobacco products, but as yet this is small potatoes
- Cigarette sales in the US (through legitimate retail channels, but not necessarily overall) are falling by 4% annually
- Altria is cutting staff by 10% as a result
- Altria hopes that its pure nic product Verve won't be regulated as harshly as whole-tobacco products
- 30% of smokers are interested in smoking alternatives
