ok so after making 2 battery boxes i decided to make a usb pass through for my 901. got everything soldered test my connections, then plugged it into my laptop..........no vapor. checked all my connections again everythings fine. tested the volts from my usb port getting 5.07 volts. plugged back in and still no vapor. checked volts at the switch still getting 5.07 checked at the 901 connector still getting 5.07 volts. i put the atomizer back on and pressed the button to see what if it would read the volts. it did but the volts drop with the atomizer connected to 1.00 and under .

any one else have this problem and a way to fix it? does this not really work with laptops? im kinda lost as to why the volts drop so low.

certain laptops are hit and miss ... what size USB cable is it? If you are trying to us a 6 or 8 ft' 24-28AWG power cord, you're likely not getting the amperage needed to power the unit. Yes the voltage may be there, but without the driving force (amps) nothin will happen or the vapor will be extremely weak. Do you have a desktop PC?

no desktop just the laptop which is junk! since i dont have a box to put this in yet i used a left over usb cable from somthing else i was doing. the cable is about a foot and a half long maybe a little longer. im thinking its just this laptop sucks. ill see if cutting the cable length down does any good.

NO NO NO !!! Don't cut the cable ...

Judging from the laptop, and your first post, its not a 2.0 USB slot? That could also be your issue. But like I said, lappy's are hit and miss.

lol tooooo late! its a 2.0 usb slot this things only 4 months old. thinking i shouldnt have gotten a gateway. but anyway making the cable shorter helped a little but not enough to get it going. it stays above 1 volt now but if i cut it any shorter its gonna look like im making out with a crappy laptop. might try making one with a little bit bigger wire and see what that does.

Are you using an LED, and if so is it inline or parallel?

I would agree with Cash that your USB is likely not putting out more than 100mA of current; not enough to excite your atomizer.

100ma@ 5v is fine, it powers the atomizer without any issues, I've been running lots of mods off of 100ma USB without any trouble, his problem lies somewhere else.

have an idea as to where the problem might be? iv have tested and tested and tested so many times. tested continuity every where up and down this thing test volts every where up and down this thing. this has actually got me stumped as to what the problem is.

When I first got my 901 passthrough, it worked great on my laptop as well as my Socket 7200mah power pack. Nice throat hits, etc. Same thing with my 801. Then all the sudden, I get hardly anything from the laptop or the power pack. The LED's light up on both 901 and 801, but minimal vapor on either. I tried them with new atomizers with the same results. I ordered a manual passthrough for my 801 to see if that makes any difference. If not, I guess I'll be building maddog's Magnum.
