Ohm meter/Reader Question

I have started wrapping my own coils and I am looking to buy an ohm meter/reader. The little black box type with the digital readout which sells for around $20-25 dollars but I am really confused by all of the thread types. If possible, I would like to have one that I could just screw the head into to get the ohm reading without having to screw the head back into the atty base and screwing the atty base into the meter. I am using mainly evod type attys and some 510 threaded attys. Is it possible to get this type of ohm meter/reader? Most of my attys are Kanger and Aspire brand.

Thanks for any help!

So that's what that is !
Both boxes I ordered for $19.99 came with it.

I find it handy to keep the deck high enough off the box to easily screw it on/off due to clumsy arthritic hands.

the one I have came with it as well. My box is off by a full ohm and several I have tested at 3 local shops have been off anywhere from .07 to 2.0 ohms If you have a good one hold onto it I think you got a jewel but for my money I'm using my Fluke meter Better safe then sorry IMO. I do like the little black box Its a perfect building stand

Your comment caused me to look at the product description more closely. If you purchase the box ohm reader from RTD, he includes batteries and an eGo adaptor in the kit. Excellent deal!

Not all vendors include both when you purchase an ohm reader.

I do question the accuracy of all meters especially if you are doing sub-ohms. Being off by just a couple of tenths of an ohm could have catastrophic results. My little ohm box reader seems to be accurate enough for my needs (I don't build below 0.5 ohm) and I always double check with my Provari's ohm meter.

Yipes!
Mine are both off by 0.1 ohm - figures, I was gonna use that $20 for a lottery ticket...

Absolutely.
I checked with my meter and several mods to verify before proceeding.

Pro tip: If a meter does not read 0.0 when touching probes, subtract the resistance it reads (of the leads/internals) from your coil reading.

Madvapes.com has the Smok Omnitester that tests Ohms and the output voltage of your 510 Mod for $19.99. It has a built-in battery you charge with an included USB cord. I like mine.

Good advice ^^ my fluke allows you to touch the leads together and it instantly calibrates to 0, but not all will have this feature so your advice is Perfect.

Thanks for the replies. So, it looks like there is not an adapter for the black boxes that will allow me to just screw the head in and get a reading. Most everyone is talking about having a spare base to do that if I am reading the replies correctly. What are 901 and 808 threading?

Dude, you don't understand. If you get a black box and use a 510 to eGo adaptor (supplied with the RTD kit along with batteries) you can simply screw on your clearomizers to get an ohm reading. See my previous post.

There is no instrument which can test the ohms in a clearo head without it being attached to a base.

901 and 808 are less common thread juice attachments which are nearly obsolete at the present. A few companies which sell novice cigalike batteries use the 808 thread (ie Smokeless Image Volts).

to ecf mloylo. So glad you are here. I got mine from Fasttech for $10 and have been very pleased with it. I have other things I can check with but I like building my coils with it attached. Makes it a bit more stable. Good luck to you and happy vaping. :)

$10.19 Atomizer Resistance Tester (Ohm Meter) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Have fun with it. :)
