My First Mod - Radioshack Cordless Soldering Iron

Hello everyone,

I'd like to show off my first mod. It's based off an old RadioShack cordless soldering iron that I had laying around. I liked it mainly for it's built in switch; the pictures do it more justice. I used the NCP630A regulator and parts from madvapes. The pics are captioned with the steps I took to make it.











Less than $10 plus an old soldering iron.

Aw cool!.

Darn it all I have one of those in my tool box. Completely forgot about it for the past two years. I have been using my AC powered soldering iron.

It was a great little iron, I have a better one now, so I decided to sacrifice it to work on my modding skills.

I seem to remember some thread about plastidip that looked pretty interesting.

Great idea for the plastidip; I'll go down that path. My worry is that paint would rub or wear off with use. I'll report back with results.

Nice, my first mod was a Weller cordless soldering iron. I should dig it out and get some new 14500 batteries and bring it back to life.
