I haven't found this suggestion on the site, but it works great for me so I thought I would post it.
For labeling all types of plastic, glass, and metal= I use white electrical tape (Scotch vinyl electrical tape 35, 3/4 inch wide) and permanent marker. SHARPIE DOES NOT WORK. The one I use is an unbranded permanent marker I got at my Dollar Store. Stands up to VG/PG/NIC, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, soap and water, Windex, nail polish remover, etc. You might have to test a few to find a good one. Also works good with ballpoint pen.
The tape can be cut to size, peels right off cleanly and can be re-stuck several times.
