This article was in my Monday Pharous Tribune paper(cass cty).

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana would require stores to have a license to sell electronic cigarettes and would tax the battery-powered devices like traditional tobacco products under a bill a state lawmaker said Friday he'll sponsor in the legislative session that starts Tuesday.

State Rep. Ed Clere, R-New Albany, said his bill is aimed at protecting Indiana's youth from e-cigarettes and the prospect that it could lead them to a lifetime of nicotine addiction.

His bill also would add e-cigarettes to Indiana's statewide smoking ban and require containers holding the nicotine-infused liquid that is vaporized in the smoking process have child-resistant packaging to prevent accidental poisonings.

Clere said much remains unknown about the health risks posed by e-cigarettes — which don't have the same chemicals and tar found in regular cigarettes — and he noted the surge nationwide of young people using e-cigarettes, which are sold in "vape shops."

"These shops are springing up all over the state and flying under the radar," he said during a Statehouse news conference.

E-cigarettes are often described as a less dangerous alternative than regular cigarettes for regular smokers who can't or don't want to kick the habit.

Indiana law currently prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes to people under 18, but Attorney General Greg Zoeller said the federal government hasn't done enough to regulate them.

"Let's all be clear — e-cigarettes are a new drug-delivery device," Zoeller said, noting that they can also reportedly be used to smoke a liquid form of ... — the active ingredient in ......... — and other illegal drugs.

In August, he joined 28 other attorneys general in urging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to adopt new measures to protect minors from e-cigarettes. Their joint letter to the FDA came four months after the agency proposed regulations that include banning sales to minors and requiring health warning labels.

The federal government's annual drug use survey, released last month, showed that e-cigarettes have surpassed traditional smoking in popularity among teens and that use rose with age — with 17 percent of high school seniors reporting using e-cigarettes.

tobacco Free Indiana spokeswoman Brianna Herndon said the group supports the legislation and said if it passes the measure would help prevent youths from entering "a pathway to a life of addiction." She noted that the liquid containers used in e-cigarettes come in myriad flavors, including cotton candy, bubble gum and fruit flavors that appeal to children.

"These are the kinds of flavors that kids like to eat, and I think everyone can agree that e-cigarettes have no business being in the hands of minors," Herndon said.

Clere said Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary, will co-sponsor his bill and state Sen. Pat Miller, R-Indianapolis, will sponsor companion legislation in that chamber.

The provision to require stores to be licensed would allow staffers from the Indiana Alcohol & tobacco Commission to check whom the stores are selling e-cigarettes to — just as they currently can at stores that sell traditional cigarettes, Clere said.

He also noted taxing e-cigarettes like traditional tobacco products would boost e-cigarettes' wholesale price in Indiana by 24 percent.

The Legislative Services Agency is currently calculating how much new revenue taxing e-cigarettes would generate, and Clere said the measure would put that money toward Indiana's tobacco cessation programs.

Since Its been posted that Indiana is trying to pass a law to make E-Cig abid by Tobacco laws.
Can anyone tell me if CASAA will now contact Indiana Legislators and try to fight this new law? Or will we indiviually have to contact our Representatives and Complain, which I have already done. I believe in order to defeat this law Indiana Vapors need the Help of CASAA.

Here's a letter I wrote to our local paper's public forum who printed the article listed above. I will revise it some and sent it off to my Indiana State legislators. Along with the words, " IF YOU VOTE YES FOR THIS LAW U WILL LOOSE MY VOTE"

**********************************************************************************************************************************

Our Indiana Atty Gen. wants to pass a Bill where E-Cigs will be treated the same as Tobacco. Its not because Kids are using E-Cigs, its because Indiana is losing tobacco Tax dollars. Hoosier's are trading Tobacco products for the safer E-Cigs so Politicians have to make up for lost tax revenue. Why not tax JUNK Food/Pop/Fast Food. Our tax dollars are spent everyday on health problems of overweight people, pick on them?

E-Cig Vapor has no smoke, does not stink your house up, there's no yellow residue left on walls, there's no stinky ashtray, there's no tar or carbon monoxide or 1,000 bad chemicals. As for E-cig juice being harmful, Nicotine does NOT cause cancer. All the ingredients in E-Cig juice(except Nicotine) is found in eatables & Medicine like Cough Syrup, Nyquil, cakes, drinks, etc.. I make my own juice and every ingredient except Nicotine is in food Americans eats every day. E-Cig juice consist of Food Flavoring(I use Lorann's), PG(propylene glycol ) VG(vegetable glycerin ) or a mixture, and Nicotine. The pg and vg is pharmaceutical food grade approved by the FDA. Next time you're at the store look at the food ingredients.

Anti-Smoker groups lobby lawmakers but what our politicians don't realize is unlike smokers, E-Cig vapors are organized. We have National/State support groups. We also have the CASAA doing research on E-Cigs and fighting for E-Cig users RIGHTS. The reason Anti-Smokers are fighting E-Cigs is because they have a tight grip on smokers necks. And when a smoker quits smoking and starts Vaping they loose that grip. Anti-Smokers can't stand the thought of losing that grip.

FLavored E-Cig juice was not made to target kids. There is NO good tasting tobacco flavored E-juice, you can't duplicate the taste of real Cigarette smoke in liquid form. So manufactures started making E-Cig juice in flavors so people could get good tasting Vapor. I don't like or approve of kids smoking, its a nasty habit. But you have to ask yourself this question. If you knew your teenager was going to try Cigarettes and you couldn't stop them, wouldn't you rather they try E-Cigs or Tobacco?

I urge all E-Cig vapors to contact your legislators about this new Indiana law.

Indiana is very much on our radar. We generally do not issue a Call to Action until legislation has actually been introduced and the issues have clarified somewhat. (Draft bills have a tendency to change before being introduced--if they are introduced.)

But there's no need to wait for a Call to Action to start getting busy. Let your legislators know how vitally important e-cigarettes are to you and how you oppose over-regulation of e-cigarettes.

As soon as a Call to Action is issued, we'll be posting in here and sending emails to our Indiana members.

2-3 weeks ago I wrote a letter to our local paper's public forum(Logansport Pharos Tribune). Last week the paper called me and wanted an interview, they was going to write an article about Ind. trying to tax E-cigs, yesterday they had me come down to take a photo of me Vaping. Today the article came out along with a 2nd article on local public reaction. My photo was on the top front page and both articles took up most of the front page. I am a little embarassed showing my face in the paper, but I am proud I am part of the E-CIG fight against local/state legislators and anti/smoker groups

Here is the links to those 2 articles, since I am not an online paper perscriber the links do not show all the article. But I am very happen our paper felt the need to print my and others feelings on taxing E-Cigs and banning E-Cigs according to Tobacco laws.

Smoking debate burns on: Indiana lawmakers consider new bill - Pharos-Tribune: Local News

Logansport reacts to nicotine proposal - Pharos-Tribune: Local News

WE NEED more members in here to take action.

Write your local Indiana Paper and complain to the public forum. It may encourage the paper to tell the public the truth about E-Cigs. I did and my local paper in my opinion help the E-Cig cause, plus I got my photo on the front page.

WE have 3 tobacco stores in town, I'm gona try to find who the owners are and ask them to tell their emplyees that when E-cig products are bought. To tell the customer to contact their state legislators. This is a small town but ever little bit helps.

If everyone from Indiana that reads this thread does their part we may be able to kill this bill.
