Funny now, but at the time

So I walked the dog (85 pound Lab) to a nearby park and sat on a bench to vape and watch the ducks. This bench was in front of some bushes and there was a slight breeze in my face. New atomizer with cherry in the tank and a few clouds drift behind me. I could just barely hear a small female voice say it smelled good, then a deep male voice say (more like whisper) "Want a piece of candy?"

I swear I think my heart stopped.

The dog picks up on this and her hair stands up, she jumped up when I did. It took about 6 or 7 steps for me to see that it was an adult couple, looking for privacy, which I had violated. Good thing she was still on the leash. But they laughed when I apologized, so I guess it's not all bad. Maybe I over reacted, but what if?

It took a few minutes for the adrenaline to subside. So, a funny story now, but geez!

I was speaking of the dog's leash. If the young lady had one, I didn't see it. But both of them had their hands where they shouldn't be in public. But they were hidden well, until I barged in.
