On June 6, the Delaware County Board of Commissioners will meet to hear testimony and vote upon a bill to expand the county's smoking ban to include bars and restaurants. What has not been covered in the press (despite e-mails I've sent out and phone calls to local media) is that e-cigarettes are including in the bill's definition of smoking.

Now -- the good news: the bill is unlikely to pass, as 2 of the 3 Commissioners have stated they will vote against it.

However, a vaper showing up and educating the Commissioners about how the local the local anti-tobacco coalition stepped far beyond its goal of 'protecting the health of citizens' by including e-cigarettes in the bill.

THE BILL NOW APPEARS LIKELY TO PASS. WE NEED A SPEAKER TO GET THIS AMENDED

The three commissioners have been divided on the issue. Commissioner Don Dunnuck, who as an attorney represents the county health board, said he supports the ban. Commissioner Todd Donati has said he is leaning toward voting against the ban proposal but is still considering public input. Commissioner Larry Bledsoe said he is leaning toward voting for the proposal after hearing overwhelming support for it and talking to bar employees who wanted to work in smoke-free environments.

No vaper attended to speak -- not even a mall kiosk owner in Delaware County who will no longer be able to demonstrate e-cigs. In his case, I hope keeping his store open on a Monday night was worth no longer being allowed to demonstrate his products when this bill goes into effect.

Apparently Commissioner Donati asked the audience for opinions about e-cigarettes. Cecilia Williams, the local tobacco control prohibitionist, stated that they could be harmful.

Measure passed. E-cigs and cigarettes now banned in bars, restaurants, workplaces, etc.

EDIT: I WAS WRONG. THE BILL WAS AMENDED TO REMOVE E-CIGARETTES :2cool:

Please send e-mails to the Commissioners to thank them.
