This brings up a point of vagueness for me personally. The Old Testament is the first covenant. The New Testament is all about the second covenant which is fundamentally different but to some degree based on the first covenant.

The whole point of Christianity is the acceptance of the second covenant. there are points where they conflict. Not here, but there are points. Some groups choose the first covenant interpretation, some the second, some mix them back and forth according to situational convienience.

It makes it confusing.
