Clapton coil ???????

First try at Clapton coil build using 28/24 kanthal trying to do dual build to .5 ohms for my Troll. Spun first coil 4 wraps on a 2.0 rod that tested at .5 then spun one 7 wraps also tested at .5 ohms. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but its kicking my hind quarter. Any help will be great....

Are your winds even?
And, are your connections at the posts
solid?
Was all the wire clean? I hit mine with steel wool if it's not shiny.
That's all I can think of...

I'm guessing the wrap was the 28g, try 32 or 34, easier to get tight even wraps.
24g claptoned with 28g sounds like a beast.

This is a 7 wrap. The container at the shop had 28/24g kanthal 145mm on it

That's only 1 coil I want 2 coils at .5 ohm. Looking at this I need 15wraps per to get that. But that will not fit under the cap of the Troll.

you are trying to do a 0.5 ohm and you are succeeding, but ....... what?

ah. ok, so forget 0.5 dual and aim for 0.3 dual.

make two 0.6 ohms singles, and they will add up to 0.3 dual

My question is why only a .05ohm drop for 2 wraps and what can I do to get what I'm looking for ?

26 gauge seems to approximate your coil

or if you have to use 2mm ID, it works for 9 wraps

I'm only building for a 40 watt istick. At .25 or .3 the battery will only last about 2 hours . I can't get through the day on that. I can get about 7 hrs on .5

9 wraps gave me .6 ohms at 2. I'd. I'll try 3. I think that's the largest post I have. When using the steam engine is it the twisted setting for Clapton coil?

I'm still new to spinning my own coils. I usually use 28g round at 5 wraps each coil to get .48ish

Hey, that sounds like some stuff I just picked up at the store here in tenn to mess with. Mine was kinda dingey, gonna have to steel wool it.
Does kinda look like that 7wrap is hitting the center post, might just be the angle. But that would account for the wierd readings.
If it was me, humble opinion and all, I'd try a 6 wrap at 3mm single coil, ser how it vapes and batt life for a day and go from there. I get some ocasionally, but I personally don't trust bulk pre-made as much as my own wire.
Just my 2 cents, if it's worth that!

Success !!!!!! 8 wrap at 3.0 with a lot of heating bending and scratching with tweezers.... Thanks all. Not a fan of twisting the Clapton coil but I'll get the hang of it.
