Just as a big helper I have included this link for the Original Poster. It is a thread with over 5000 posts that discusses the intricacies of burning cartomizers.

This is OLD news, but thanks for giving people a heads up, BUT it would be better to do some more research before coming into the new user forum with you "sky is falling" chicken little mentality.

On this forum questions and concerns are appreciated BUT a little research goes a long way.

For a better explanation of the situation it is the juice charring, especially high sugar juice, it will turn dark brown (like caramel) and eventually ash up the atomizer, this is why you CLEAN them regularly. If you feel the ash built up on the coil is unsafe then you should immediately stop using your device and go back to smoking.

These products are not safe. After following the instructions in the user manual and going through a cartridge, I was curious to see how this thing actually works and took apart my spent cartridge.
The high tech atomizer that is advertised acutally consists of a thin wire that runs alomgside a wick made of plastic fibers. These are wrapped by a thin layer of a cloth-like material & synthetic mesh.
The outer materials are soaked in liquid, the wick draws in the liquid, and is heated by the wire.
Though I had changed the cartridge, as instructed, once I noticed a difference in taste, I was shocked to see that most of the materials inside, especially the plastic wick was burned to a charred black crisp.
I took apart a brand new cartridge to compare, and I then fitted the battery unit with a new cartridge I took a few small puffs, being careful not to overheat the device. When I took this one apart, I could see it was already starting to burn.
You are essentially burning and inhaling plastic when using this product.

You forgot.... "This message brought to you by Phillip Morris"

Go easy on the newbie. Sure, he's posting in ignorance but that is what newbies do. We need a sticky telling newbies to keep off the "world is ending" posts till they poke around ECF for a week or 2. I can't tell you how many of my early perceptions were altered with the truth once I spent a week around here reading.

Now, I am not saying this kind of newbie post shouldn't be rectified immediately and firmly. However, we should try and be a little kinder to newbies. They literally don't know better yet.

You'll probably never see him/her again. It's a troll. Posts one mis-information post to confuse other newbies and leaves. Fear-Uncertainty-Doubt (FUD) factor. Used to sell other products, or get people to use tobacco rather than e-cigs.

I hate burnt-carto crap too. I use atties mostly. But even I know that there's a lot more to it than with the OP posted.

Pass that can of troll spray.

P.S. Sorry ShannonA... but give me a break.. it's a today-post.

Ever stand on a city street next to one of those running old yellow shool buses. If you can live after inhaleing those fumes burnt plastic is no prob. The burning plastic actually adds a nice little touch to the TH if you ask me.

And here I was thinking I was the only one that likes the TH you get from a burning cart lol.

Hi Folks,

Why assume troll? Op is describing my early experience with cartos to a tee. Over a year ago, I had 15 cartos to prove it. In fact, I still have a few as I haven't thrown them all away. And I did keep them wet. As every one knows quality control isn't the best from China, and if the the little silica sleeve isn't positioned around the nichrome the cotton batting will singe badly. Even if it is in place, rapid vaping can singe them. The most singe resistant carto I've tried to date is the duel coils.

Scottbee posted some pictures somewhere in this thread.

Lots of folks feel it's no more that the paper on ciggies. ( studies indicate the paper on ciggies in not a biggie, surprisingly enough.) Me, I just can't stand the taste of charcoal.

Well for me its because they posted once and disappeared. That usually indicates a troll.

I think troll is the appropriate term for this poster. He joined yesterday, made one post, and no others so far.

I hate to say it, but the troll is not totally incorrect .. until I got the hang of it, I burned a few myself .. this issue is one of the reasons any future testing by any lab or what not needs to be done using the correct procedure .. there are numerous threads and testing of cartos that deal with this problem ..

Anyone that has any doubts or is waiting for some mystical future testing that's not going to happen should not vape. It's very simple. Try the gum, try the patches, try some voodoo. Most of us have tried that route and it didn't work and this is the last resort. And surprise! It works.

Not directed at you, but I think some people get some kind of adrenaline rush scaring the crap out of themselves. Smoke cigarettes if you think vaping isn't safe and shove Twinkies in your mouth if you think artificial sweeteners aren't safe. But don't inflict your paranoia on others when this may be a chance to save their life. That's why threads like this anger me. I have a mother in the other room that I have to listen to fight for breath because of cigarettes. Vaping isn't going to cure her COPD but it's the first time in 60 years she hasn't smoked and she feels 100x better.
