i have a provari, love it. i check my attys ohm with it to make sure im on the right voltage. but with brand new attys, if im unsure of the ohms, can i slap it on my provari and check the ohms before filling it w juice? will it burn the carto?? i would love to be able to put an empty carto and check

yes when checking ohms the provari will fire, burning any unfilled Carto

It checks the atty/carto under load, so it does need some juice in it.

A Filler Type Carto Shoul NEVER be fired Unless it is Wet with e-liquid.

So Yes. You should Fill your Carto First, then check the Ohms.
