A week of the eGo-T, and a REVIEW of vendors, juice, cartos, attys, et cetera.

Wasn't sure where to post this....here's as good as any, since eGo is the backbone.

Okay, well, my history is that I was an adopter back in '09. I tried the Sidesho, a knock-off 510, the M401 Dragon and the Janty Kissbox. At first, I didn't really like any of them, as the taste was never really there for me (however, this could have been primitive juices). I took the Dragon out in public and people loved it, like I did, but it often shot juice into the mouths of the user, and drawing too hard was too easy. The Kissbox was my go-to vape, and I loved dripping on it, as the flavor was better with this than with anything else. In truth, dripping on it still isn't terrible, but it is a royal PITA.

I started back up and then gave up smoking again. I do this cycle of smoking/not smoking over and over, primarily because of the habit more than the addiction. I love the sub-culture, getting to know your co-workers over a smoke, or waiting for some dude to show up for a meeting and burning that extra fifteen minutes, or actually getting a break when non-smokers don't or going outside with some new chick I just met at the bar or this or that or what-have-you. Non-smokers will never know.

So, I wanted my habit back, but I'm working out like a champion and didn't want to compromise that by smoking again. I've found running and smoking are incompatible for me. It's one or the other. So, instead, I decided to break out the Kissbox again (which I used until a week ago) and see (odd sentence to read, but tense agreement correct) if I could order some replacement attys, since mine had a good year of use on them between the four. I had one switch out of three fail, and that's the only part on the Janty that ever broke down on me. (Sidesho had two batts fail w/i a week. POFS, which is too bad, because I liked the PCC, the look and everything else about it, except for its function.)

Problem was, no one sells Kissbox attys anymore, from what I found, so I looked at "upgrading" and stumbled upon, and read this monster of a thread. Yes, I read the whole damn thing. Took about a month....haha. After seeing cozzicon's video review after a week, I was sold, despite varying reports of reliability/problems, so I pulled the trigger and bought like a madman. I've only tried regular cartridges and standard dripping up to this point, I should note.

Equipment: I ordered my kit from Electronic Cigz, and I know I paid a premium for it, but I wanted the XL Janty Ego Tank System (with 900 mAh batts) and they were the only people I could find selling it. I figured I owed it to Janty, what with the Kissbox and all, even if it is just the name stamped on the thing, but they were sold out on their website. However, from Janty USA, I got two LR Tank Attys, some black tank carts, a cartomizer and their PCC. Additionally, I placed an order with Liberty Flights, where I decided on a steel 1100 mAh T-Rex Batt, a steel LR Atty (I'm a sucker for "accessorizing"), and some extra clear tank carts. From Cropduster, I got three of his dual-coil Echo-E cartomizers. From Clouds of Vapor, I got a 3.2 ohm mini-MAP tank.

Juice: Of all the juice I ordered first time around, VS Vapor had some of the best, so I gave them a reorder with Seattle, Cherry Almond, Phoenix and Frost (my favorite). They were out of Café Sumatra, which I highly recommend. Based on some recommendations I read here, I also ordered Kretek, Black Licorice, Spiced Rum, Café Macciato and Atomic Cinnicide from Tasty Vapor. From Backwoods Brew, Espresso, Malty Toffee and Caramel Cappuccino.

On to vendor review. I received everything I ordered from everyone, except I can't give Electronic Cigz high marks, because they really boned me. The sent my order to my billing address instead of my shipping address, even though the confirmation email which stated it shipped listed the correct destination, which meant I was unable to catch it until it was too late. This is a serious problem for me, since I'm currently in Afghanistan. To make matters worse, they did not respond to emails concerning the issue. This is partially why I double-tap so that I have no single point of failure, and I cannot rain higher praise down upon Liberty Flights than I'm about to.

My entire experience with them has been fantastic. From the 20% discount, to the paid reviews of products, to the ultra-fast shipping (ordered last, arrived before some of the others), the convenience of PayPal and the great products, they're just awesome. Only complaint I have is that they need more pictures of their products, but that is kind of nit-picky, given their detailed descriptions. And this Mega T-Rex battery is a BEAUTY (green light ring = win) with a MONSTER life-span (I've used it up to two days, never killed it yet), which I need, since I'm without my starter-kit.

Which leads me to the PCC from Janty. I love this thing. Yes, some may say with these giant batts you don't need one, but in my situation, it's a necessity. I also don't have my charger, so the PCC works in place of one, and can charge large batts almost twice. If I'm away from power for days, "camping" let's say, I have a back-up when my batts run dry. Given everything is charged fully when I leave, if I'm apart from the world for almost a week, I "should" still be able to vape. Worst thing I can say about the PCC is that they should have put a light to notify when your battery is fully-charged...they have one to tell you when the PCC is, so it's boneheaded that they didn't.

I don't have my Clouds of Vapor order or my MAP, but I can't blame that on them, since I ordered it a week after everything else. All I can say is that I hope they put more stripped CE2s on their website, because I am NOT a modder and I have ZERO desire to do that when this thing burns out.

I gotta show cropduster some love, here, too. He even sent me an extra cartomizer. However, I must have misread what I was ordering, because they are NOT the eGo cartos. I don't know what I ordered, but it's here. I think I need the conversion kit (Good Lord, that white spacer is fugly), but I don't know how much I want to spend the $20 bucks right now, because.....

I HATE CARTOMIZERS. I bought them because I saw a vocal minority who raved at how much "better" they were than the tank. For the most part, I'm getting just as much flavor from the tanks, and the flavor is "cleaner" than cartos. Cartos have the EXACT same problem cartridges did....you can taste the filler. MAYBE the dual-coil solves this problem, but I have little hopes for me ever being satisfied by a carto vape. I understand the convenience, but when it takes three drags to change a flavor in the tank, I'll just pack a few extra T-carts.

As for the tanks, I'm in love with them. I have had ZERO problems thus far. I could possibly think it's luck, or maybe I adopted later and got newer versions of attys/carts, but I think it's more the fact that I SPENT THE TIME and read that entire eGo-T thread. I paid attention, and followed the advice of others. For those who are lazy, I'll help you out: Puncture the tank empty. Rotate 360 degrees. Pull out. Fill with syringe, do not take the top off. Blow LIGHTLY on the atty, clear primer. Drop two to three drops in the hole in the battery end and let the juice absorb into the coil. Wipe away excess. Drop two to three drops on the wick using your syringe. Line up the air vents with the spacers on the needle plate. Insert. Take two to three primer puffs. Let sit 10-15 minutes. Use. Like I said, following these instructions, I've had zero problems and have not had to mess with the wick at all. One thing I do that I'm not sure I really read was I always continue my inhale at least one to two seconds after I turn off the coil to suck out all leftover vapor AND prime the tank for my next hit. Overall, this is what I'd hoped vaping would be over two years ago and wasn't. I leave them upright overnight. Only leak I've had was when I knocked over an atty with a cart filled about 1/3 of the way in the middle of the night and it laid there until morning. Must have been a bad dream that made me jerk my arm and knock it over....

The only real problem I've had with the tanks is the fact that some of the flavor seems to taste burnt (not atty-dry burnt, just burnt), and only some flavors like my caramel cappuccino, cafe macciato and malty toffee, which still taste great on the Kissbox. I think this is due to the fact that, once again, I don't have my starter kit, and I'm forced to use LR Attys exclusively, because that's all I have. I believe there are particular flavors that will taste better on a regular Atty while some taste better on an LR, which is why I wanted both.

Now, onto a juice review, which some may find useless, since it's a taste preference thing, anyway. I'm a flavor guy. My primary mission is to find the best flavor and the "I will kick you in the teeth" juice. We may all hate cigarettes, which is fine, which is good, but say what you will, cigarettes had FLAVOR and we liked it at the time.

Tasty Vapor: Kretek tastes good, but more spicy than clove. I had a Djarum from Vapor Station from way back in the day that was spot-on compared to this, but Kretek does grow on you, and it tasted more clove-like as the day went on. I'm wondering if aging this a bit may dampen the cinnamon and spiciness. Black Licorice is not as strong as I'd hoped. I'm a black licorice fiend, and while this is passable, it's just not powerful enough for me. Regardless, I'll end up vaping it all. Café Macciato, like I said, tastes burnt, but great in my Kissbox, so I'm hoping the regular atty will fix this one. Spiced Rum smells just like it should taste, but tastes like regular old bubble gum. I'm hoping age or a regular atty fixes it. Cinnacide....given this is notorious as an atty-killer, I still haven't had the balls to try it yet. I'm thinking about giving it a go once one of my attys seems to be dying the slow death.

Vapor Station: Frost is as good as it ever was. I use it primarily to mix with other flavors to add a mint hint to it, but definitely vapable by itself, too. However, when I want to vape mint, Seattle is now my go-to. It's more like a menthol cigarette than anything else I've ever tried, and it's a thing of beauty. Cherry Almond tasted like heaven in my Kissbox, so I filled a cartomizer with it (yes, I filled it correctly, after watching this vid and many others), where it's very, very blah, being overpowered by filler. Haven't tried it in the T yet, as I think it would benefit from a regular atomizer. Phoenix is what I would expect from a pipe tobacco ejuice...kind of like a pipe, but not really, with a tamer flavor. Not bad, however.

Backwoods Brew: All are delicious on the Kissbox, but burning up in the eGo-T, except for the Espresso, which rocks like a champion, but I'm not using it for fear it may gunk up my atty worse than I'm already doing by vaping my standard darkness.

In summation: The eGo is amazing. Love the tanks, hate the cartos, looking forward to trying the MAP. I should also note, that since I'm stuck with all LR attys, I have not tried the Type-B tank, but I plan to. I'm also planning on getting the 510-T at some point, too, but while initially motivated to go out and buy-buy-buy, that desire has subsided somewhat due to the fact I am almost completely satisfied with my vaping experience as it stands right now. I feel that I could almost convert anyone away from cigarettes due to its simplicity, but then I recall the supreme laziness of the public at large. The beauty of the eGo, and ironically, also what I think may be one of its biggest disadvantages, is the fact that it is so COMPLETELY versatile. There are so many variations on its use that it boggles my mind that I or anyone could survive in the vaping world without one, but if you would have asked me my thoughts a month ago when I was trying to make orders for it, I would have asked you how in the f#(< people could figure out what goes with what, evidenced by the fact that I ordered the wrong cartos from Cropduster.

Bottom line: If you don't have one, get one. If you don't like your eGo setup, you haven't wasted your money, there's about a half a dozen more attachments you can try out. Even if you like those awful cartomizers.

Thanks for reading, those of you who made it, I'm sure this will be destroyed by the tl;dr crowd, but I felt compelled to throw in my two cents. Any recommendations on something I should try, juices to check out, errors in logic, complaints at my long-windedness, will all be appreciated.

Sorry to disappoint you, I read the entire post and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having had an ego tank setup, I can sort of validate everything you've said. And I suspect your suppositions about the LR vs SR attys is spot on. I'd be very curious to know what actually happens with the juices when you get the SR's. BTW, I still have my tank setup(s) and although its not my "go to" PV, it *is* the wife's, can't seem to convince her all the mods I have are better :)

Yeah, I love Air Conditioning in the desert, but lol wut? :p

Puffer, what kind of mods are you using? Only reason I got the MAP Tank is because it seemed like the one I'd have to fuss with the least. I don't want to tear my stuff apart, and I'm not any sort of electrical engineer, so messing with wires, fiddling, just is not for me. The tank vapes beautifully with about as little fussing as I need to do.

To add to the review, I did get an email from Cropduster, so I'll probably get the conversion kit and try out the Echo-Es, too...though I'm not going into a carto with high expectations.

Well, I use the REO for my "out and about" vape. When I'm at home (most of the time), I prefer direct dripping and switch around between my Puck, and the Screwdriver. Occasionally, I fire up the Go-Go, or the Ego-T, but they just don't have the flavor. I've never really found a carto or cart that doesn't detract from, or add to, the flavor somehow.

Truthfully, the Puck is the best (4.8v with a 901 atty makes a difference), but the least amount of fiddling, is the REO, hands down, and the flavor is dayum close to the Puck.

Never really heard of either of those two, but I'll do some REO-seach. ;) Quick look and it sounds kind of like the Journeyman, which I kind of thought about, because you could custom-tailor it, but that dude is either lazy or he straight-up stopped making them. How is the battery life on it? I never put too much thought into a box-mod simply because I think it would kind of look stupid walking around in public smoking a square...haha...

But........I wouldn't mind sitting around at home and puffing on one, and the bottom-feeding sounds ridiculously simple and just as easy as the tank. If I reserved a box for at-home use, I'd still have the badass eGo to rock in public and make people stare at me and wonder why the hell smoke is pouring out of a pen...rotfl

Don't feel like making anything, so Puck would definitely be OUT.

I just realized I still have four unused XL cartomizers, so I decided to fill one up with the Atomic Cinnicide I've been afraid to vape. Looking forward to it. And on another update, I used my filling syringe to push down the wick just a smidge on the atty with my Café Macciato juice and it seems to be wicking more and the taste is a little better and not so burnt...hell, most of the coffee I drink is about as burnt as this is....haha. Maybe when I have more than half of this tank gone I'll throw some Frost in with it and see if that works its magic.

I'm actually wondering, and maybe some reader could advise me on this....I'm thinking about maybe picking up some KGo Batts and seeing how different voltages affect certain flavors. Does anyone think this is a worthwhile endeavor for $45? With regular eGo batts, KGos, LRs, multiple ohms in MAP Tanks and regular Attys, you'd have a world of combinations for a single juice.

Dammit, this is the problem with this stuff! I'm perfectly happy vaping as I am right now, and I still want to buy more! That whole line about saving money is a sham! :D

Oh, also, I should note that Tony from Cropduster is AWESOME. He emailed me and said he would hook me up with an adapter for the cartos I purchased by accident for free since I'm in Afghanistan and cut a stainless spacer special for me. I don't like to take handouts, but he's a Vietnam Vet and I've learned to respect their wishes and not to argue with them. ;) He's a great guy and I have to give him mad props...looking forward to his stuff.

Finally, I've found that vintage pipe racks are GREAT for displaying and housing my eGo-T setups, plus I can put my juice bottles in the tobacco housing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a good picture:

There's two (metal, all mechanical) models of the REO. The "grand" (about the size of a business card) uses an 18650 battery that likely will last all day and carries 6ml of juice. The "mini" uses a 14500 battery, good for around 2 or 3 hours and 3ml of juice. (how long they last varies with your vaping routine).

I heard of one guy that uses his out and about and if anyone starts to stare, he just pretends its a cellphone :)

They both use 510 connectors so you can use most any 510 stuff with them. And the grand will vape at 3.7, or 6v, depending on your batteries and configuration.

I have an ego-t as well, but it doesn't compare for flavor OR juice capacity.

Good to hear you got the wrong order sorted, there are some really good vendors here, all the ones I've used have been excellent.

I too have some old pipe/cigar stuff hanging around, I'm using a really nice wooden cigar humidor to store all my PV "hardware".

Dammit, this is the problem with this stuff! I'm perfectly happy vaping as I am right now, and I still want to buy more! That whole line about saving money is a sham!

Amen!

Don't be afraid to jump on the REO forum and ask any questions you have, I'm only familiar with the "mini", but I have 2 of them, because.....well, because I'm .... about backup :)

ETA: They also come in wood versions, but those aren't all mechanical, they have 2 wires in them :)

I'm interested in the REO now, but man! Expensive! I'd like a black and gold one (I'll engrave it with a Hawkeye logo :D ), but it seems like all of the ones I look at, period are sold out...? What type of atomizer does it use? Also, how does it feed the juice? Do you have to work some sort of feeder into a special atty? Do you have to push that bottle all the time? I've never done much with variable voltage, does this vary? If so, what are the best combos for good flavor (all I really care about)? I'll definitely hit the REO forum, but I have no basis going in, even.

Here's the rack I have (No, not my arm. I'm hairless. Further evolved from the apes.):

eCigRack.jpg

Holds two fully-assembled eGos, my T-Rex, two KGos and a spot left for the AWESOME B52 CROPDUSTER IS SENDING ME!!! I told him it was way too much, but since I was airborne, he insisted. I can't believe him, honestly. Stand-up, great guy all around. I told him I'd definitely try it out and spread the word. It's my first 901, so I'm excited about it.

So, basically, if I get a REO, it can stand beside my rack and look purty. :D

Nah, it'll spend most of it's time in your hand :)

Seriously, I've tried a lot of mods, the "cut above" are always a bit more expensive, but are built to last (e.g., REO, Screwdriver, etc.) He seems to always be sold out because he produces them in "batches", sends them out to be anodized, then final assembly/prep. So they are only available every few weeks (and generally sell out in a day).

To give you some basic knowledge, they are 510 threaded, and feed from a bottle inside the "case" (hence the thumb hole). Uses standard attys. In general, you squeeze a small bit of juice (known as "squonking"), then vape for 6 to 12 hits, then squonk again. So it's basically direct dripping, with a 3ml or 6ml supply built into the mod, nothing else to carry. It never leaks, so no need for paper towels and assorted cleanup gizmos. If I were heading out for the entire day, I'd probably carry a spare battery or two, and an extra bottle of juice, but mine are "mini"s, so the batteries and 3ml isn't as robust as the "grand".

There's a thread in the REO subforum on when the sales open up here, and you can spend about a week perusing the stickies and posts.

That's great to know about cropduster, vets deserve a little extra consideration, afterall, we wouldn't be here if not for the vets.
