What is Creme de menthe?

Have you ever tried Andes mint chocolate thin mints? Chocolate on the outside, mint on the inside.
On the back of the bag it actually even says "creme de menthe"
It doesn't taste much like chocolate, it's more minty menthol like.
Very creamy. Very delicious.
