Got a 510 about a week ago. Everything was going great. I loved it. Well, yesterday and today I start to get a burning rubber or burning plastic taste. The hits weren't as immense and strong as I remembered. I searched this forum high and low, as I was about to give up on this thing... (I felt like I was smoking a Goodyear radial)!

Remove the wick material (no, not the fluffy stuff in the cartridge, it goes too, but you need to remove the "threads" in the atomizer) and direct drip. Flavors, draw and throat hit are better than when the unit was new! No more burnt rubber or filling carts and doing all the mods! There are videos here and on Google that show how this is done. Vapor production as well as nicotine absorption are much higher now too!

NOTICE- If you direct drip auto batteries, it will destroy them!

I almost gave this thing up with substantial investment, but the direct drip method has rejuvenated my interest highly!!!

I might even need to lower my nic strength due to this method!!!

All of them! :pervy: My favorites, used to be Tasty Vapor Strawberry Cheesecake and Madvapes fried apple, but, direct dripping has made the tables turn again. I'm actually anxious to retry my other juices with direct drip as this has redefined all of them. My suppliers thus far are MadVapes, Tasty Vapor, DIYFlavorShack and Cignot... This direct drip adds a whole new perspective to this thing!

hi guys!

I'm new here. Well I had the problem of the burned plastic taste. It was awful and totally unbearable. So I removed the wick, like advised on multiple threads. But apparently it's impossible to use cartridges after that...
So I had some basic questions about direct dripping, where I couldn't find an answer to it right away.. (it's a joye 510 btw)
-how many drops do you put in/on the atty/bridge?
-how not to flood the atty?
-what do you think about the ease of use? How do you handle this? Because so not to flood the atty, you can only put a few drops at a time, where a cartridge can hold 10 drops or so.. Do you always carry the ejuice in your pocket and drip every 5 minutes ?
-The vapor production seems far less with direct dripping, and far more throat hit (the latter is normal). I find it weird that vapor production is diminished... any input on this?
-and last but not least.. I loved the automatic battery for the simple fact that you can vape without having to use your hands (like behind a steering wheel, or behind a keyboard). Is it impossible to use the automatic battery with direct drip?

So considering all of this, I think I'm going to invest in new atties... Are there like high-quality atties, which wicks are really temperature resistant so that won't melt that you know of? (links to sites for buying those, if they exist, are welcome). Another idea of mine was to 'make' a wick out of metal fibers, but I'll have to investigate that further before trying.

Sorry if there are noob questions and/or answered elsewhere on this forum.

Thanks in advance,
Achilless

EDIT: I forgot to ask.. even without the wick, it still tastes a little plastic-ish. Probably some of the wick melted on the heating-core. Any ideas on how to remove that? (Buying new ones seems like the reasonable solution here, but than we're a week further.. which means I would have to buy cigarettes in between... You catch the stress here?) Thanks again

Definitely not the taste bud thing, but i got figured out what the problem and the solution was..

The problem was indeed that the wick got melted into the heating core, with consequence that every time the atty goes above a certain temperature, it releases the plastic taste..

But I figured out something that might be a good mod. I might make a video tuto when it's fully tested. I took one of those metal cleaning tampons (sorry I can't post a picture of such a tampon, seeing my message count) and I made a little 'sausage' form out of this. I put it partially under the bridget, and more importantly, in a circle around the bridge. So now I can drip my liquid on de metal fibers (which won't melt).

The advantage of this, is that it holds more liquid than regular direct drip, there is a better heat-transduction than without it, it will not melt like the regular wick and it prevents your atty from flooding.. It still needs to be tested on the long run, but this might be the next big thing in vaping-mods...

I will keep ya fellas updated on this. But for the moment I need new atties to try it out properly
