I am sure this question has been asked before but I can't find the answer to this question.

My bday is June 15th and I go on a short weekend trip to Florida by plane as well as a trip back home to Germany in August and a trip to Cali in September so now my question IF FOR ANY REASON I feel the need to take a "toot" on my flight to Germany since its an 11 hours flight would the smoke detector go off in the bathroom of the plane due to the vapor or not?

I honestly don't plan to do it because even if no alarm goes off but just because it would bring stricter rules in place for e-cigs and I also know that I could take a hit and keep the vapor longer in my lungs but just overall would the smoke detector go off? I tried it at home and nothing happened but I sure don't feel like getting arrested in a plane with tons of fines and jail sentence.

Thanks ya'll

There is a thread about this and some detectors have been set off, apparently some sense vapor or changes in the air. I think if you held it and exhaled into your shirt collar, you could probably get away with it, but somewhere between here and Germany would not be fun to have everyone going mental about what is going on in the restroom.

Thanks for the link and we have the same thoughts because if for some strange reason the detector does go off I would be soooo screwed. I don't even know the penalties but I sure know they ain't good.

I have has two situations where a non-smoke event set off a smoke detector. One was on a transpacific flight where I was getting a shave and wanted to open my pours and sinuses a bit. I asked for boiling water to add to the sink. That actually set off the smoke alarm.

Another was very similar in a hotel where the vent fan wasn't working so I left the bathroom door open while I showered. The hot steam off of the shower triggered the smoke alarm in the sleeping area.

In both cases the total amount of vapor in the air was significantly more than what I get when I'm casually vaping. However, if I was chain-vaping in a short duration I could easily see this being a problem.

The suggestion above of holding your breadth a little longer and exhaling in your shirt is a good one. Use it. -Magnus

I've taken quite a few flights in my last 11 months of vaping. I have stealth vaped the whole way-without holding back. I do the same thing in business meetings all day (right in front of others-who never know, and think I'm chewing on a pen (riva), an odd pen (spark plug) or a cell phone (reo). I have also went into the bathroom and taken significantly larger hits-but blow down towards the ground. Nothing crazy-just don't blow towards the smoke detector.

I know that the byproduct of dry burning an atty or coil will absolutely set off the smoke detector, so don't dry burn your ce2 in a hotel room or something because that gunk IS SMOKE. Other than that I can't imagine any of my vapes setting off the smoke alarm. Especially if you stealth vape or use one of those low vapor juices.
