Why is my Smok AL85 suddenly harder to pull on?

I have the air flow holes open completely and just recently I've noticed it doesn't feel as "airy" when I draw in the vapor. It feels like the air flow is half open when it is fully open. I dropped my vape last night, I'm not sure if that would mess anything up though (it is not visibly damaged). I've taken the tank off and apart and cleaned everything and put it back together TWICE now. I'm still getting tons of vapor on the inhale, so it's not really a huge issue. I just can't pull in air as fast so I find myself taking slower, longer and softer drags. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what might be going on. Thanks!

Hi Elixira
You didn't say what tank you are using so I have to assume you've got the Baby Beast with that AL85. The problem seems strange in that there is no good reason your airflow would change. Even dropping it shouldn't impact the airflow unless there was noticeable damage and misalignment of the parts which you say there isn't. You say you have cleaned it twice so there should be nothing like say pocket lint that somehow found its way inside and is blocking the airflow.

You can try and diagnose the problem by following the air's path. You say the vents are wide open which is easily seen. the air then travels through the base into the coil, through the coil and up the chimney to the drip tip then through to your mouth. By taking the tank apart you can see through each of these to see if there is a blockage and you can test draw air through them separately to further determine if there is a culprit there. The latter will also tell you which part is being the most restrictive to air flow.

At this stage, and assuming you've not been able to find a good physical reason for the change, all I can do is hazard some guesses.
Guess #1 - Is it possible that you changed the coil to a different type. Though I haven't noticed any difference in mine from one coil to the next, say from the T8 to the T4, but maybe you noticed a difference.
Guess #2 - Are you perhaps letting a finger sit in front of a air slot when vaping, I do that sometimes without being aware of it.
Guess #3 - It is all in your mind, nothing really has changed with the airflow. I don't mean to belittle your impression that the air flow was reduced but sometimes impressions can be wrong.

Good luck with it.

Over time I have run into a tight draw situation that wasn't the coil but a glob of gunk had dropped into the airflow passage or a piece of lint from my pocket got into it. 2 simple suggestions to clear it out and first is try blowing into the Atomizer and secondly remove the base and coil then wash it out and blow through it to find the blockage. Also check the coil is clear while you are at it.

Yes, sometimes I get this kind of thing where sometimes the airflow will seem tighter than normal, and then later it will feel looser again, when nothing has changed but my attitude. I've only ever experienced this with my Kayfuns, though, which have really tight, restricted airflow to begin with; never on my more "airier" tanks & RDA's...

You just want to have the ladies ask "is that a mod in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"..

;)

But, yup, that's what I was thinking.. making sure nothing is clogging the coil cartridge.

If the tank itself looks fine, there's only so many things that could stop the airflow.

I ended up just playing with it and adjusting the tightness of the parts and that seemed to help a little. I'm thinking maybe it's because of the new coil? I'm not worried much, I can still vape fine! Anyway, thank you all for the suggestions and the help :)

I know that sometime, the wick can stick itself out from the vertical coil, somewhat blocking the airflow... it's pretty crazy how little it takes to make a noticeable difference.

I rebuild my cartridges (not the SMOK ones though) and I can do a dozen all the same, and some with be perfect, others will be a pain to use, regardless how identical I built them.

I'm not familiar with your particular device, but perhaps the coil itself has airflow slots or holes that sometimes, but don't always, line up with those on the base when it's screwed in all the way? And so some coils could be airier than others just based on "where it lands" when the threads are fully seated. I don't know, just brainstorming...

Welcome and glad you joined. New coils can change air flow.
