I have used the KangerTech pre-built coils for a few months with my mini protank 2 and evod. I get no metallic taste with these and they have been working well with cotton wicks. I recently got a Magma v2 rda clone and kanthal A-1 wire. However i get a strong metallic taste from the kanthal even after torching and i have even tried boiling it after. When i rebuild a KangerTech coil with the kanthal i get the metallic taste as well. It is not coming from the RDA because i have cleaned that and do not get any taste from it directly.

My question is which wire do they use in the KangerTech pre-built coils? I think if i could find what they use i would be able to enjoy my new RDA a lot more. Thanks for any info!

This is not my listing, i just wanted to show the ones i have had success with.

Here is the kanthal wire i purchased.

The Kanthal A1 you list is genuine Temco wire... the source for most "Kanthal" wire in the US, and supplier to tens of thousands of rebuildable vapist users. Chinese resistance wire? Who knows. Under license from the patent holder - Sandvik? Doubtful.

"Torching" Kanthal is a double edged sword. Kanthal is comprised of primarily iron, then chromium and aluminum... the last of which is most critical to our particular use.
Overly aggressive torching (which I don't recommend, as the wire comes pre-annealed and easily manipulated with the proper tools and techniques) can consume a large portion of the aluminum, which functions as the outer aluminum oxide layer, that (here's the critical part) provides electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity and a barrier layer over the iron.
Once the alumina layer is vaporized, all that remains is the iron and chromium... which is something most can taste, and an indication that your wire is "worn out". Wetting it after torching only adds to the condition by producing a layer of iron oxide, AKA... rust.

In simpler terms, you may be ruining the wires potential before you actually get to use it.

I have tried it without torching as well. I just think it might be something i personally don't like, which is why i am seeking the wire used inside the KangerTech coils.
Did you check for hot spots?
No hot spots. The first coils i wrapped were actually quite nice, just had that taste to them.

Just a guess - does Kanger maybe use Nichrome?
I think it might because it doesn't keep that shine after usage.

You should try nichrome80 (NOT Nichrome60!) Nichrome80 has no iron in it, and tastes better to me than either Kanthal or Ni60.

lightningvapes has decent prices on it (and a lot of different gauges).
Thanks i will give nichrome 80 a try and order it from Lightningvapes. They do have good prices.
