Somewhere out there
I just put it (ego twist clone) on the charger, a few minutes later I caught the smell of over heatinging electronics. I pulled the charge cable right away, but the battery is still hot. The button seems to be stuck on., Right now, it's sitting on top a bin of kitty litter and it's still hot.

Should I bury it in kitty litter? Any better ideas?

Maybe I should have stated a bit more clear Lol, obviously you don't want to put it in the trash RIGHT this minute. Give it some time to cool off and throw it away, get yourself an upgrade like a new VV VW mod that you put batteries into and you shouldn't have that problem again.

Sorry should have explained a bit more Lol

I saw a wisp of smoke come out from near the button, so I believe the circuit board in the ego failed in "on" state, the ego LED was on steady. At the time of my first post, the battery was just getting hotter and hotter, so I was looking for a place I could put it safely, in case it was going to explode. Kitty litter was the firt thing I spotted on my way to the back door.

It's cooler now, but the LED is still blinking.

If the short is removed and it hasn't exploded yet then it wont. But yah toss it, they so cheap that they aren't worth fixing.

I'm pretty sure it was the control circuit in the ego that shorted, so I had no way to remove the short. That's why I was concerned it could still go POOF! Memories of those youtubes of deliberately shorted Li batteries were in my mind. They took a while to start venting or pop.

Whew! Crisis averted. Yeah, definitely replace both battery and charger. Can't be TOO safe.

Also FYI to all: PLEASE do not put batteries of any sort in the garbage! They must be properly disposed of at either your municipal hazardous waste center or many stores (like Radio Shack was suggested, probably Best Buy, etc.) will happily take your spent batteries of all types for safe disposable.

I'm not going to put it in the garbage until it cools off, don't want a garbage fire. Kitty litter is clay, so I'm thinking it won't hurt anything in there.

I think you were Very Smart to place it in Kitty Litter.

The Battery is Clearly Damaged and is Unsafe to Use/Charge Again.

Batteries can fail, Any Type of Battery. This is why I NEVER Leave batteries charging Unattended. And Place my Batteries/Charger in a Glass Baking Dish while they Charging.

Glass isn't going to Catch Fire or Conduct Electricity. It can also prevent a Nasty Mark on a Wood Table/Desk or Counter Top.

This. ^^^

Just throw all your spent batteries (AA, AAA, e-cig, etc) in a tin or plastic box in the garage, somewhere away from fire hazards, and bring them to any Best Buy, Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc after you've amassed a few and you remember to do so.

Lithium batteries aren't yet classified as hazardous waste, but let's not be dummies here.

It's not like it's illegal to throw them in the regular trash, but it's kind of an azzhole thing to do once you know better.

Now you all know better! :D

Yep, know better, do better. I didn't know either, until a kind person somewhere along the way in my life pointed it out to me. And dependent on one's municipality or jurisdiction, it MAY be against local ordinance to dispose of batteries in the regular trash stream. Especially if one's area incinerates trash.

Or follow the rc community.. use a charge bag ;) Some vape shops carry them.. but every r/c shop has them.

Also if they have bare contact spots please place electricians tape on the contacts. Nothing like having these batteries short in a barrel full of batteries.
