What Is Ethyl Alcohol? Substitute For Everclear?

This is a repost from general e liquid discussions. Is Ethyl Alcohol the same stuff as everclear, or Whole Grain Alcohol? I saw a bottle at CVS, the description of which said 70% Ethyl Alcohol, (not to be confused with Isopropyl alcohol.) I vaguely recall from chemistry class decades ago that there are several types of alcohol, one of which was deadly if consumed (probably METHYL alcohol) There was another kind that kids used to mix with orange juice right there in the LAB.... Took the boredom out of the class .... I asked the pharmacist if the stuff was consumable but she was kind of coy about it. Any experts out there who know whether I can use the CVS Ethyl Alcohol as a substitute for Everclear for mixing purposes? I hesitate to use it because the description listed small amounts of other ingredients.

From my understanding, ethyl alcohol is simply the type of alcohol that we humans ingest to get drunk. Not sure why it would be labeled so awkwardly... most ethyl alcohol is branded and advertised heavily. 70% means 140 proof which is pretty potent stuff. Be sure you know what the other 30% contains.

Try to find some cheap vodka. Of course we don't don't know that it's completely safe either, but I wouldn't use the rubbing alcohol. Lots of good info on this page. I'm not sure, but what's in the other 30% would bother me.

What's the problem with just using everclear or grain alcohol?

Gem Clear is a cheaper version of Everclear

Ethyl Alcohol is a common label used for rubbing alcohol such as those found at CVS and Walgreens. THEY CONTAIN ACETONE.

I use everclear every time. And every time I am done soaking my tanks I am tempted to drink this nectar of the Gods that results in soaking fruity vapes in grain alcohol but I resist lest I go blind with drunken Vaping Mua ha ha aah
