What does steeping actually do?

Does anybody know? I understand it makes juices taste better but does anybody actually know why or what process occurs, or what effect taking the cap off and exposing it to air or leaving it in the dark as opposed to just leaving it out has on the juice?

Some juices have an alcohol odor that uncapping helps the juice rid of.
Some juices need time to blend together.

If you shake your bottles prior to filling a tank, carto, etc that also is one form of steeping.

Long Answer: I wish I did know because I like to know how things Work, but I don't.

I imagine it is the Same underling Chemistry that makes Spaghetti Sauce taste better the Next Day.

In the case of tobacco flavors, there must be some kind of chemical change taking place. It only takes a few days for everything to become thoroughly mixed, combined and melded but it takes weeks for the final flavor to develop. FA Camtel tastes musty and 'green' until it's steeped for about a month, IMO.

hmm, true...maybe putting the juice in the fridge like leftovers would intensify or speed up the process...? lol I sound ......ed but now Im trying that with my next batch. I dont really know if putting it the dark or just letting it sit out makes a difference. I mean I dont know why it would, what does light have to do with it marinating.

And then some juices I really havent tasted a difference with either way. I havent noticed ok juices getting better, just terrible juices becoming somewhat vapeable through steeping. I really havent noticed the huge change in quality I hear people talk about, my good juices were good out of the package, bad ones were still bad after steeping

I've never tried it But I would think that putting e-Liquid in the Frig would Slow Down the Steeping process.

Who knows though?

And Half the Fun of DIY-ing is trying things and doing Controlled Experiments to see what works Best.

Example: I got some juices 60ml each from a company, simple flavors, peach, strawberry, raspberry and chocolate. Those were the nastiest juices I had ever vaped. I capped them and put them in the cupboard and forgot about them. I started mixing my own juices and just left those nasty suckers alone. Today, I saw them sitting in there, I put them in there about a month ago. I decided to try one...it was wonderful, really wonderful, so I tried the next and then the next and they were all really great juices. How it works I have no idea but I know for a fact that it does work. I now have 120ml ml of wonderful juice to use

I'm with you.

I have had some Similar things happen to me.

I have also had some e-Liquids that Still tasted Bad after Steeping. But to be Honest, I don't think I would have liked them No Matter what they Did or Didn't Do.

Some e-Liquids just don't Taste Good. But that's OK.

it's like when you make cole slaw or tuna fish with onion and pickles when you first mix it together it's ok but if you put it in the fridge and let it sit overnight all the flavors have a chance to mingle and it's way better

Steeping Custom Made E- Liquids makes the ingrediants blend together into a final solution that produces a final, and in many cases favorable, result. I think it was Wlad of Ahlusion who recommended keeping e-lquids away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes. You can refrigerate e-liquids. Many DIY'ers refreigerate thier liquid nic and other components of thier juices. The Shelf Life of any eliquid has been described as six months to a year, but I wouldn't know as mine never stick around that long.

When I moved recently I had to figure out what to do with a big drawer full of rejected/forgotten juice (upwards of 200 bottles... shut UP, it's a character flaw.)
Some were almost 3 years old. I bravely tried a few.
Not gonna recommend that... p'too, p'tah.

They were likely P'tooP'tah juices in the first place, but time does not heal all wounds.

I always thought it was just the time it takes for the liquid to reach a state of equilibrium. ( Except for some tobaccos, there's something else going on there.) Ejuice tends to be thick, it needs this time.

I'm with you on that.

It's more to me of having DIY Recipes that when first mixed were OK. But After steeping were Very Vapable.

I think they have to start out at Least OK for steeping to work.
