So, now that I've got the Subox nailed down (haven't pulled the trigger yet, but will soon) I need to get some batteries. I think this is more complicated than trying to decide what box to get....

Since I'm getting the Subox from fasttech I started looking at batteries and there are SO many options for 18650 batteries (too many for me right now anyway). Staying away from the obvious junk, and ones that are out of stock, there are several that look like they'll work, but there are still a ton to choose from!

There's the Panasonic NCR18650BB

$11.01 Panasonic NCR18650B Rechargeable 3400mAh 3.7V 18650 Lithium Batteries (NCR18650B 3400mAh: 2-Pack, Flat Top^) at m.FastTech.com - FastTech Mobile

The LG LGDBHE41865

$5.09 Authentic LG LGDBHE41865 3.7V 2500mAh 18650 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery (LG LGDBHE41865 18650, 2500mAh) at m.FastTech.com - FastTech Mobile

The LG LGDBHE21865

$4.59 Authentic LG LGDBHE21865 3.7V 2500mAh 18650 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery (LG LGDBHE21865 18650, 2500mAh) at m.FastTech.com - FastTech Mobile

The Samsung INR18650-25R, Sony US18650VTC4, etc.

I don't know whether any of these are protected, unprotected, or what I even really need for the Subox....

This is really confusing!

Any suggestions?

Use unprotected batteries. The protected batteries will turn off at too low a current level.

Do not use the NCR18650B. A great battery but it has a very, very low current rating and is not suitable for use in a Subox.

You need a 20A, or higher, rated battery. The higher the mAh rating, the better. More mAh means longer time between recharging. I recommend the LG HG2 3000mAh battery for your Subox. But make absolutely sure they are genuine! Batteries are not the thing to try to save money on at the expense of safety.

Thanks for the links to the articles! I read them all and have a better understanding of the electrical aspects of vaping.

There's so much misinformation and subjectivity when it comes to anything that has to do with vaping that I'm glad I'm going about it this way and am more informed. If I would've just gone to my local B&M, who has been my greatest source of misinformation and subjectivity, I would've gotten the typical sales pitch and walked out with something that may not have been the best for me. The guy couldn't get the resistance of the coil for my Kanger mini protank 3 right. Wouldn't somebody who knows anything, sold me and can see my ego vision, and owns a store that sells quite a bit of the stuff, be able to say "I'd use a 1.5 ohm coil"? He's sold me 1.2s, 1.5s, and 1.8s. I realize that with the limitations of the ego battery none of them will make it go from sub-mediocre to amazing, but I would think he'd know that a 1.2 would get nasty and burnt out in like 2 days and a 1.8 would make light and flimsy vapor and be slightly annoying to use.

I think everyone (tobacco store owners, etc) is or has jumped on the vaping bandwagon. The problem is that having fancy display cases and tons of products doesn't educate the people that own and/or run the places.

Speaking of my local B&M, yesterday he spent 15 minutes trying to convince me to buy some 26 gauge coil wire. Then he told me that RBAs were junk, and specifically the Kanger RBA plus because they're too hard to work on. Then he told me not to even try to use the RBA and to just buy the pre-made coils. Then he tried to convince me that what I really needed to buy was a $70 RDA, which would be far superior to the RBA.

All this while he knew I had ordered a box online. He doesn't even sell Kanger Subtanks...

Grabbed my juice, 20 minutes and two ears full of manure later.
