Hey all, I am new here but decided to post my dilemma due to seeing similar situations asked here.

So I have been vaping for about 3 years now. I had no problems up until about a month ago. I smoke 1.2% (12) nicotine level. One of the problems I am about to tell you I believe started when I switched to a new juice from my local vape shop called "Suicide Bunny" (which is the brand I think) 'Mother's Milk'.

I really like the flavor but I developed a sore throat. I never even thought to think it was the e-cig due to how long I have been smoking them but after three weeks of it not really going away, I went to see a doctor. She said it was nothing and I have no swollen glands anywhere and that it is either acid reflux or a cold that will dissipate. After about a week (this past weekend) it went away almost completely. Then, suddenly last night I noticed it hurt again. But not really in the same spot but kind of in the same spot if that makes sense. First, as usual, I noticed my left side get a little tender but thought nothing of it. Then it feels like there is a knot on the left side of my throat under my jaw. Not quite on neck but seems to be right on the gland. But my gland is not swollen at all. It has subsided slightly since then, since I drank a ton of water.

But then, just now, something happened that has happened before. Right after taking a pull of my e-cig I get this sudden feeling as if there is a piece of small hair in my throat that will not go away. Sometimes if I force myself not to cough, it will subside. But sometimes it tickles so much I just cannot help but cough. And I am not talking about a simple light cough. Once I start, it's like it makes it worse but I cannot stop unless I try really hard too. Eventually it slowly subsides. I have had the hair issue for about 6 months now very occasionally after an e-cig pull.

Sorry for the long story, but does this sound like something dangerous or just the e-cig drying me out? I am a bit of a worrier, so of course I already think I have throat cancer despite my doctor saying I would have other symptoms and the sore throat would not go away. But deep down I am leaning on the e-cig causing these issues. I know for a fact it can make my mouth so dry that my gums bleed occasionally but how can I avoid this? Perhaps the juices I am smoking has too much PG in it? I am a bit of a newb when it comes to PG and VG so maybe directing me to a place where I can buy quality juice and recommend a good PG/VG mix for someone that suffers from these e-cig side effects?

I look forward to a reply. Thanks for reading if you made it this far, lol. :)

Have you tried changing flavors? Vaping causes some irritation, usually a tiny fraction of what smoking will do but there are so many possiblities. We have allergies, we have flavor fatique. You don't say what watts you're vaping. Are you over doing it. How many ml's of liquid per day. Breathing too much water saturated air can bother your lungs. A few months after starting DIY I was getting some mouth irritation. I reduced the flavoring drastically (to 1%). Still get good taste, no more irritation.

I'm smoking at about 40-50 watts (4-4.5 volts based on resistance of my current atomizer). However, I do not smoke my e-cig like a hookah. I smoke it as if it was a cigarette. Puff then inhale.

I go through about a tank a day which is 5ML (I think). Here is the device and tank I use (the black one) Pioneer4You iPV D3 80W Full Kit With PVair Si Tank TC VW Box Mod Black Authentic

Well, I don't Smoke.....................I Vape, but I'll try an assist.

First, If you noticed the change right after switching E-liquid Vendors, You should Switch back and see if the symptoms subside.

Second, if you are Smoking, the power is to high and/or wick is DRY........Both BAD.

I only vape DIY unflavoured @ 12mg, usually between 24-35 watts.

I noticed that when I used some old nicotine base that had oxidised and turned a deep yellow, not only had the flavour profile changed to an unpleasant tobacco/nicotine flavour, but it also became more harsh.

With this harshness I found it irritated my throat much like you describe, and I had some dry coughing.

I threw out the old nicotine base and the issue went away with the new base.

Perhaps you have an old bottle or juice, or the manufacturer used to base that was on the turn.

It might be harder to notice with all that flavouring.

In any case I believe nicotine can act as an irritant on the throat (although I think this is fairly harmless), so the higher the nicotine in your juice, the more you vape, the higher the watts, is likely to increase the irritation.

Water is your friend when suffering from this.

    12mg at 50 watts;
    that is very high .
5 times average by my reckoning.

you can do without food for days, but you cant do without breathing for more than a few minutes.

But for starters you said you are using a new liquid, so you should just stop that liquid.
I know people who vape higher strength than that and one even vapes higher strength and higher wattage than that. It all depends on the person, your body adjusts. Unless you just adjusted your nic intake or changed your wattage recently and your body is still adjusting it's unlikely that's the problem. The new liquid however might have something to do with it.

Wow thanks for all the replies. Makes me feel less alone with this symptom. Great community.

I just switched back to a juice I had no issues with to see if my throat heals up. As for mouth to lung, I don't smoke like that. I take a pull then inhale. I don't smoke it like a hookah (if that's what you meant).

A lot of what is being said makes a lot of sense. I crave that throat hit so I often crank it and I guess I started adjusting. because guess what? I just realized I got a new device (the one I linked) right before this started happening. I went and tried my old device at the power I would puff at and it was much weaker. I am going to use the new juice and lower the watts down to 20-30. But also, remember the resistance on these atomizers are .3. I'd like higher but that means 20W on my old 1.2 ohm autos was pretty much the same volts as my current 40ish watt toke. I also just realized I have been vaping at 32W. So I think it's less the power and more the nicotine strength and atomizer ohm along with dryness.

Thanks again for the support. If any other suggestions come up please let me know. I'll report back here with the results of switching the aforementioned.

I take a pull then inhale.

That is MTL or Mouth(draw) to Lung(inhale). Very common style for a lot of vapers. I sort of go back and forth depending on the tank in use.

Glad you are sorting this out!

Remember, if you feel like your over doing it, just take a break. I sometimes just vape from habit while reading and start noticing a heavy feeling. Sit the mod down for a bit and everything goes back to normal. :)
