I recently bought a Kanger Toptank. Nice tank. RBA section, stainless coil, nickel coil. I think the nickel coil was preinstalled (not 100% sure).
I have been vaping for 4 years now, and I have read a lot in my time, so I like to think I am quite well informed, even about stuff I have not personally tried.
But WHY are Kangertech giving people Nickel coils without any information about Temperature Control?
Any novice could buy this tank and be using the coil in wattage mode, which most people agree is, at best, not healthy.
It seems really irresponsible to me. I do not currently have a tc mod (will probably get one soon), so I knew to just place the nickel coil to one side.
No wonder some people are calling for greater regulation.

Would only happen for a short minute. Nickel coil would super heat in wattage mode - real fast.

Novice should be asking questions before making purchases.

Hi all,
I too made the move to TC vaping and at first thought that I would be saying farewell to my sub ohm tank collection....Kangertech, Aspire to name a couple. To my delight one of my suppliers had the Kangertech OCC Ni200 coils. (Blue packet) Oh joy!

Heh the joy was short lived. I purchased two packets (10) coils. The resistance was supposed to be 0.12 ohm. Out of 10 coils I had to discard 4.:-x The resistance ranged from 0.46 to 0.65 and tasted like sh.. I took the dud coils back to the supplier he opened a new box of 5 coils. The first three were similar to my duds. Eventually I got 4 coils replaced with the correct resistance. (30 min+) time spent. The vendor was also miffed as he had emails from other customers with identical issues. He and I both summise that Kangertech like many manufacturers are rushing to get a slice of the TC craze and their quality control has gone by the wayside..

On a brighter note I discovered that the Vapresso coils fit my Aspire tanks and their ceramic TC coils both Ni & Ti are as sweet as and no problems.

Both my Kangertech tanks have now RBA decks and I make my own Ni/Kanthal Claptons for them. I now run the Aspires with the pre made Vapresso TC coils and have abandoned Kangertech TC coils.

Any one else had any issues with Kangertech coils?

Vape on and be happy

Are you talking about the original OCC coils for the subtank? The square ones?

If so then I would agree, their Ni200 coils in that design SUCKED. I had very inconsistent performance from them when I tried them as well.

However, Kanger also has their SSOCC Ni200 coils for the subtank, and these are FAR better coils than the original OCC design. The SSOCC coils have larger juice holes, better wicking, and a vertical coil design which leads to better flavor and excellent performance, far better than the OCC coils.

I've read some stuff on the internet claiming Ni 200 and titanium coils are not safe and may cause cancer.
Oiy vay..   If it's on the Internet, it must be true.. :censored:

Yes, when super-heated, Ni and Ti give off some toxic compounds. If you follow some very simple precautions, that won't happen when using them whilst vaping coils made from them.

It did not say this anywhere on the packaging for the Toptank. I know the drill, because I spend far too long on forums like thus, and watching YouTube videos. Someone who just wants to quit cigarettes should not have to hunt for health information. It is simple enough to put tc coils in a clearly marked packet.

Simple precautions that are not made clear on the packaging. we live in a world where microwave ovens have to be sold with instructions not to dry your dog in them.

Actually, all vaping metals give off toxic compunds when super heated. That is why dry burning is not recomended.

Kanthal is an alloy of iron (Fe, 70%), chromium (Cr, 20-30%), and aluminium (Al, 4-7%). When heated, aluminium oxides form a protective layer on the surface of the wire.

Nichrome is an alloy of Cr (80%) and nickel (Ni, 20%). When heated to so called red hot temperature an outer layer of chromium(III) oxide develops, which protects the heating element from further oxidation.

Stainless steel (SS) Steel is an alloy of Fe and carbon (C). The stainless property of steel is due to the presence of at least 13% of Cr. The Cr prevents chromium oxide from forming a protective layer. Some contaminants in the form of trace metals are present in SS. The classical SS316 contains also small amounts of molybdenum (Mo, 2.5%) and manganese (Mn, 2%).

All these wires are usually dry burned and will oxidize and can flake and come off, so you might inhale some of the "rust" when vaping.

A dry-burn is dangerous for 3 reasons:

  1. The coating of oxidized material that is formed in surface can peal off during vaping and be transferred to the lungs at the same time as the aerosol, in the form of microscopic particles, or particulate matter.
  2. The particulate matter can cause allergies. Ni, for example, is recognized for causing skin rash, itching, redness.
  3. The particulate matter can also be toxic for the organisms. It is, for example well described in the case of welders exposed to Mn oxides.
Nickel (Ni200) and Titanium, unless you super heat it, should be safe, because they are not dry burned.

The old 0Cc coils. Like I said Kangertech rushed in to the TC market with poor quality .They don't get a second chance from me. Vendors and buyers are stuck with OCC coils and Kangertech will not do a recall and replace them with SSOCC. If this was a regulated industry they would be forced to do a recall. As it stands the Chinese dump any sh..on us for a quick profit.......clone rubbish is a good example
