    Somewhere between here and there
Hello again. I know I’m a little late to the game here but I’m here anyway with my review on the Voopoo Drag X PNP-X kit that was sent to me by Voopoo in order to provide this review. The Drag X PNP-X is the latest in the Drag series of pod mods from Voopoo. With chivalry as the core theme, the Drag X PNP-X pays tribute to the glory and virtue of the knight. The mod uses a single 18650 battery and uses the Gene.TT chipset. The output is adjustable from 5-80 watts. Also included in the kit is the PNP-X pod tank which holds 5ml of liquid. The pod has a new more convenient way of refilling and an anti-leak design.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Drag X PNP-X is pretty standard for a Voopoo product. The front shows a picture of a Drag X but it’s not the color of the one that I received. I guess they don’t put the correct image on each box. It’s understandable since it would be more expensive to print all the different boxes. The back of the box has a list of the kit contents as well as the company information and a sticker marking it as a sample on not for retail sale.

The Drag X PNP-X series is designed with the idea of chivalry as the core. It pays tribute to the glory and virtue of the knight. There are five new knight colors which are as follows.

    - Shield Gold- Knight Templar for defending justice

    - Knight Red- Masked Knight for pursuit fairness

    - Knight Chestnut- Dragon Knight for defending glory

    - Eagle Black- Black Knight for brave and fearless

    - Knight Gray- Paladin for spirituality

As you can see, I received the shield gold for this review. The outer sleeve slides off to expose the mod and pod tank sitting in a foam insert. Also included in the kit is VM1 coil rated at .3 ohms and the VM5 coil rated at .15 ohms. The PNP-X pod is nothing new to me. It is very similar to the pod tank included in the Drag X Pro.

On the right side of the mod are the words Gene Chip Inside etched into the metal frame. On either side near the top you can see the airflow inlets. This is adjusted by sliding the protruding pin on the back of the pod port. This design has been used on many Voopoo products.

On the left side of the mod is the Voopoo name etched into the metal frame. On the back is a very nice padded leather like material that has a crown and shield design stamped into it as well as the Drag name.

The display on this mod will look very familiar if you have used other Voopoo Drag mods. The display shows the following from top to bottom.

    - The Drag name and battery indicator

    - Set wattage and mode of operation( Rba or Smart}

    - Coil resistance and output voltage

    - Length of time of current puff and Puff counter

Above the display is the nice sized fire button which protrudes slightly. Below the display is the + and – buttons followed by the USB-C charging port.

The operation of the mod functions is as follows.

    - Press the fire button five times to turn the mod on/off

    - Press the + and – buttons to see the Chip ID

    - Press fire and + buttons to lock the device

    - Press the fire and – buttons to reset the puff counter

    - Press the fire button three times to switch between RBA and Smart modes

The pod opening on the device has the metal ring around the perimeter of the interior of the opening like is commonplace on pod mods and is held in place by two torx screws. Below the ring are the gold plated electrical contacts. The Drag X PNP-X does not have auto draw like the S version does.

The PNP-X pod comes with a sticker on the side that says press and slide to the left. Once you do this the rubber fill port plug is accessible and the pod tank can be filled. The drip tip on the pod has a nice metal ring on the bottom that matches the color of the top portion of the tank. This tip is replaceable in case you don’t like it. I personally think it’s fairly comfortable to use and used it the entire time I was testing it.

The coils are simply pushed into the bottom of the pod to seat. I always put a few drops of liquid in the coils before installing them to help prime them for use. It’s still a good idea to let the tank sit for a few minutes before using it the first time with a new coil.

As I mentioned earlier, the two coils included are .3 ohm and .15 ohm. It was rather unusual for me to run at or above the top end for any stock coil but with the .3 ohm coil I found myself running at 41 watts and it was still a fairly cool vapor. There was plenty of vapor and pretty good flavor but it was cool. With the .15 coil I liked it at 48 watts and had the airflow about ½ open. This was a little warmer but still a fairly cool vapor. I tend to like a cool vapor so it was a pretty good fit for me. I did find myself wanting a tiny bit more warmth with the .3 coil. You can see in the picture below that the .3 ohm coil and .15 ohm coil have different colored o rings to make it easy to see which coil you are installing.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

I really enjoyed testing the Voopoo Drag X PNP-X kit. In the past I had experienced some liquid seepage with earlier versions of the PNP coils and tanks but had none of those issues with this kit. I had a very tiny amount of condensation and no leaking whatsoever.

It had been a while since I’ve used a Drag mod so I have to admit that it took me a while to get used to having to press the fire button once to wake the device up before it fires. I believe this is a safety feature but could personally do without it. It only does this after it sits for a while unused. The Gene chip seems to work well and fire pretty quickly. I felt like I got very good battery management with the .3 coil after getting over 360 puffs with the output starting at 35 watts and worked my way up to 41 watts. Of course using the .15 coil at higher settings will result in fewer puffs.

The Drag X mod is really rather small despite using an 18650 external battery. It is small enough to fit in a pocket after locking the device and is comfortable to hold with the leather like padding on the back of the mod. I did notice that the lock function locks the whole device and there isn’t a way to lock just the adjustment buttons. That may be a complaint for some people. I honestly almost never use that function on any mod.

Overall I was fairly pleased with the operation and performance of the of the Drag X PNP-X kit. I’ve always liked their coils but like I mentioned had gotten some seepage in the past but not with this one.

I’d like to thank Voopoo and Aimer for sending the Voopoo Drag X PNP-X kit for this review and once again thanks to the readers. Below is a link to the website for you.
