Hello and welcome back for another review. Today I will be taking a look at the new Voopoo Drag 5 Kit that was sent to me by Voopoo in order to provide you with a fair and honest review. The Drag 5 Kit is made up of the Drag 5 mod and the Uforce-X tank. The mod is powered by two 18650 batteries and offers four modes of operation. It also has a 3 in 1 switch where you can lock the device, lock the power, or switch the mod on/off. There are five different theme colors the user can choose from and a new battery evaluation system. The Drag 5 offers an output range of 5-177 watts and has a fast charging USB-C port that is rated for 5V/3A. There is also a new graphic display that can be turned on or off that I will show you later. The Uforce-X tank is the first Uforce tank to use the PNP-X coils and has a new slide to fill top cap. It has a 5.5ml liquid capacity and has top airflow to eliminate worries of leakage.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Drag 5 Kit is a little different from the usual two part box. The front is a sort of artistic type sketch of the device with tank installed. The Voopoo and Drag 5 names are printed on the front. The back of the box has a contents list and company information. There is a nice color picture of the device on one side with a list of three features.

The box opens differently than what is commonly seen. There is a shorter flap on one side that is lifted to open the box. Included in the kit is of course the Drag 5 mod, the Uforce-X tank, two PNP-X coils, a spare glass tank section, an o ring pack, user manual, and battery safety card. Both glass tank sections are the same and provide a 5.5ml liquid capacity. This is the first Uforce tank to utilize the PNP-X coils in order to provide exceptional flavor.

The Uforce tank is equipped with the Voopoo PNP-X atomization technology platform to provide four layer anti-leaking technology, four times lifespan, and claims 100ml of liquid usage without leakage.

The Uforce-X tank has the PNP-X name printed on one side of the airflow control ring and Voopoo printed on the opposite side. The chamber has the three dogs symbol printed on it that seems familiar to me but don’t recall where I saw it before. I’m sure it had to have been on a Voopoo tank. The airflow adjustment on this tank is step-less and the airflow opening slots are very big to allow plenty of airflow to the coils. The bottom of the base has the Uforce-X name printed on it.

This is the first Voopoo tank that I recall having a slide to open top cap for filling the liquid. The word PUSH is printed on the side of the top cap and there is an arrow that lets the user know which way to push the top cap for filling. There is a gasket over the fill port to prevent leaking and will fit most bottles that I have alright. However, these gaskets can cause a little bit of a mess if you are using glass dropper bottles like I sometimes do.

The coils included in the kit are the .3 ohm PNP X coil rated for 32-40 watts and the .15 ohm PNP X coil rated for 60-80 watts. However, all of the PNP X coils are compatible with the Uforce-X tank.

    Somewhere between here and there
Now let’s move on to the new Drag 5 mod. It is made of leather and zinc alloy and weighs in at 156.58g which isn’t too heavy considering it’s a dual battery mod. Voopoo chose to try a different take on the C Frame battery tray design and instead comes with a removable leather cover that is held in place magnetically. The cover is simply lifted from the side to expose the battery tray. The tray is clearly marked with the battery polarity and has a cloth strip to assist in removing the batteries. It’s always recommended to charge batteries in an external charger but if you have to charge them in the mod, Voopoo has built a 5V/3A charging in the Drag 5 to get you back up and running fairly quickly. The JUST DRAG logo is stamped into the top of the battery tray. I’m not sure but the trays are also marked A and B.

I have to admit that I was very happy to receive the Gradient Blue version but was surprised that it had so much of the light blue brushed leather on it but it made sense once I saw how the leather cover lifted to expose the battery tray. The left side has the word PUSH and an arrow telling the user where to lift the cover from. The Voopoo name is stamped into the leather on that side also. I’m not a huge fan but the back has a black strip with white stitching. The right side has a nice leather patch with white stitching and the words DRAG, DRAG, DRAG stamped into it. That same side has the Voopoo name etched on the zinc alloy frame.

The front of the mod has the familiar round fire button with a silver highlight around the button. Below that is the vibrant display that shows the set wattage, mode of operation, two battery level indicators, voltage while firing, coil resistance, puff counter, length of time of current puff. Below the display is the 3 in 1 switch that can be used to choose between locking the device, locking the power, or switch the device on/off. This is set in the menu that I will cover shortly. Below that are the + and – buttons followed by the USB-C charging/update port near the bottom.

The button/menu operation for the Drag 5 is as follows.

    • Press the fire button 5X to turn the device on/off or toggle the switch if it is set for this function
    • Press the fire button 3X to lock/unlock the power setting or toggle the switch if set for this function
    • Press the + and – buttons to access the menu
    • Inside the menu you can choose from four modes which are Smart, RBA, Eco, and TC
    • Also inside the menu you can set one of three functions of the multifunction switch, choose user interface color, battery evaluation, puff reset, and turn on/off the flame animation theme.

The 510 connection for the Drag 5 is offset and is held in place by three torx head screws. The center pin is plated and spring loaded. The top of the mod is large enough that it can fit a 28mm atomizer with no overhang.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

I was very excited to receive the Drag 5 kit for this review. I have been a fan of the Drag series of mods for some time. It was an added bonus that the Uforce tank makes use of the PNP X coils which are known for delivering exceptional flavor.

I have mixed emotions about the sliding top cap on the Uforce tank. I do like the sliding operation but am not a big fan of the rubber gasket that covers the fill opening. I sometimes use glass dropper bottles and it can get a little messy when filling with those when having to push through a gasket. Other than that I was very happy with the performance of the tank and the PNP X coils. The .3 ohm coil made the smart function on the Drag 5 default to 35 amps. I had the airflow about 1/3 open and dialed the wattage back to 32 watts. The flavor and vapor production were very good. With the .15 ohm coil the mod defaulted to 65 watts in Smart mode. I prefer a little cooler vape and the 65 watts was just too warm for me after a few puffs with the airflow mostly open. I ended up with the airflow about ¾ open and set at 53 watts. It delivered a very thick and flavorful vapor.

I have zero complaints with the Drag 5 mod. I very much like the multifunction switch and how the user can choose from one of three options in the menu as to how they would like the switch to function. Also the leather cover is a really interesting take on the C frame type of battery tray design. I don’t think I’ve seen another like it. The mod, despite being a dual 18650 device, is very comfortable to hold and has a nice weight to it without it being too heavy and tiring my hand. The flame graphic is a neat idea despite having no real function. It is fun to look at though. In my opinion, the Drag 5 is a welcome addition to the Drag family of mods and an all-around solid device.

I’d like to thank Voopoo for sending the Drag Kit for this review. A big thanks to the readers as always. Below is a link to the website for your viewing pleasure.
