    Somewhere between here and there
Hello again friends. I’m back with you today to cover yet another pod device called the Argus Pod SE that was sent to me by Voopoo in order to attempt to provide you with a fair and honest review. Yes, I know there have been a lot of pods lately. I know this all too well but I’m going to go ahead and do my best to cover this one for you. It reminds me very much of the Argus Z pod in size but looks a little different and has had an airflow adjustment added. Then I got to thinking that the shape resembles the Argus Pod that had the leather sides on it. Voopoo used a new nanoscale lithography process for the patch design. The SE has an 800mah battery capacity with a maximum output of 18 watts. The charging circuit for this one is rated at 5V/1A so it should charge completely in less than an hour. The pods included are compatible with the Argus P1, Argus G, Argus Z, Argus Pod, and the Argus Pod SE. It’s nice that they are compatible across so many devices.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Argus Pod SE is pretty standard coming from Voopoo. I do like that the picture on the front of the box is a picture of the actual color version contained inside. I received the Shiny Blue version for this review. The picture on the front is pretty nice and of course there are the Voopoo and Argus Pod SE names printed top and bottom. The back side is nothing new. It has the usual contents list, warning, company information, and authenticity code.

The tray containing the SE slides out from one end to expose the SE on the left with two pods on the right side of the plastic tray. Included in the kit there are two pre-built pods that are .7 and 1.2 ohm resistance rated. You can see on the front of the rubber stopper on each pod that the ratings are clearly stated for user convenience. Since there is not a pod pre-installed in the SE, there is not a safety seal on either one of the pods. Also included in the kit is of course a USB-C charging cable and a user manual. I don’t think most people will really need to look at the manual very much since this is a simplistic auto draw only device with no screen or buttons. It is however always a good idea to look at the safety information.

What I would call the front of the SE has a grooved square shape near the top with the sliding airflow control contained inside. It doesn’t have a wide area of operation but it does work ok and is stiff enough that it shouldn’t move when taking it in and out of a pocket. The Argus name is printed on this side while the Voopoo name is printed on the opposite side as well as the Gene AI name near the top on that side. “Designed by Voopoo” is etched on one of the skinny sides. A bit too much branding for my tastes. The opposite thin side of the mod is where the three LED battery indicator lights are located. The three levels are as follows.

    • Three lights = 66-100%
    • Two lights = 33-66%
    • One light = <33%
There are also LED indicators that give you some other information besides just the battery level. When charging the corresponding light will flash. Once fully charged then the three indicator lights will be lit solid. Other indications are as follows.

    • Normal mode: Corresponding LED will gradually get brighter
    • Low battery: LED indicator will flash red 10 times
    • Short circuit: LED indicator will flash red 2 times
    • Time out(8 seconds): LED indicator will flash red 8 times
    • Temp High: LED indicator will flash red 15 times

The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom on this one so there won’t be any standing this one up while charging. Honestly I pretty much never try to stand up a pod device when charging it no matter where the charging port is. They are usually so lightweight that they the cord will knock it over anyway.

The pod opening on the SE is pretty standard and similar to what we are used to seeing on this type of device with two spring loaded contacts, two magnets to secure the pod, and the airflow sensor which is raised to prevent liquid flowing into it.

The pods included in the kit are the .7 and 1.2 ohm Argus Pod cartridges that are compatible with a handful of other Voopoo pod devices as I mentioned earlier. I don’t see a reason to repeat them again. The resistance of the pods is clearly stamped into the rubber fill plug and there is an arrow directing the user which side to lift in order to fill the pod. They aren’t the easiest or the hardest to lift for filling. I’ve had better and worse. The pods hold 2ml of liquid which is pretty standard for most pod devices. I like that the pods are clear enough to let the user pretty easily see the liquid level in the pods. I have noticed that if I get the liquid level too low then I get what I would almost call a gurgling sensation which is easily corrected by filling the pod. The included pods are pre-built and the coils are not replaceable. However, there is a pod available for purchase separately that has replaceable coils and will work in place of the pre-built pods. Voopoo was nice enough to include one with my review samples but the coils that were sent are .5 ohm and not suited for the SE since its maximum output is 18 watts. I however did receive a second pod device that I will be reviewing next and will show that pod and the coils. The base of the pod has four air inlet openings and contains magnets even though they aren’t visible. I confirmed this by sticking the pod to the metal handle of my desk.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

This is the part of the review where I sometimes struggle as to what to talk about when it comes to pod devices. I guess I should start out by saying that the SE worked very well for the most part during my time testing it. The SE is another Argus pod device in a long line of Argus pods from Voopoo. It is small in size and can easily be carried in a pocket or purse. It offers a loose to tight MTL style of vaping. I had zero issues with the auto draw on this one. It worked flawlessly. I had no leaking and almost no condensation while testing it. I’m not really surprised since I’ve tested the Argus pods before in other devices. As a matter of fact I still use the Argus Z on occasion. It’s nice that besides the included .7 and 1.2 ohm cartridges, you can also use the empty Argus Pod and choose from .5, .7, 1.0, and 1.2 ohm ITO coils. However, the .5 isn’t recommended for the SE due to its wattage limitation.

I normally run 70VG/30PG in all of my devices whether it be pod or tank. I started out with the .7 ohm pod and filled it with an orange tart mix that I use frequently. I let the pod sit for probably 20-30 minutes while the battery was charging and came back to give it a try. I found the flavor to be muted almost to the point of getting a dry hit. I puffed lightly on it until I used up some of the liquid and topped it off with a 50/50 nic salt I had left over from another review. After this it wicked fine and the flavor was pretty good. Not great but heck it’s a pod not an rda. The conclusion I draw from this is that either the coil in that pod was packed too tight or something because I’ve used 70/30 in other Argus pod cartridges. I closed the airflow about 2/3 of the way to get a slightly tight MTL and quite enjoyed it once the coil started wicking correctly.

Next up was the 1.2 ohm pod. I decided to use a NET tobacco mix that I like and have used a fair amount. For the most part I usually don’t like the higher resistance pods. I always end up craving a stronger vape. The flavor on the NET was a little muted on this one compared to the pod mod I used it on in a previous review. It’s not terrible but just am not getting the flavor notes that I am used to from this liquid. I think for a device with no output adjustment that a 1.0 ohm pod would have been a better fit for me personally.

As I mentioned earlier, the SE reminded me of the Argus Z and the Argus Pod so below is a picture of the SE beside the Z. I gave away the Argus Pod so wasn’t able to include it in the picture. The second picture below is the SE and the other sample I was sent which is the Argus G and will cover in my next review. The pods are interchangeable between all of these devices but the .5 ohm ITO coil is not recommended for the SE so you will have to wait for my next review to hear if I liked this one with the replaceable coils.

I’d like to thank Voopoo and Nical for sending the review sample of the Argus SE Pod kit for this review and stay tuned for my next review on the Argus G. A big thanks to the readers. Thank you for sticking it out with me on all of these pod reviews. Below is a link to the Voopoo website where you can see these new products as well as the mods and tanks available from Voopoo.
