Hello everyone, my fiance is due with our first child in December, and during this time she had quit smoking cigarettes. I quit along with her and switched to vaping, which I really enjoy now. For the first few months of he pregnancy she was vaping some 0 nic juice, but without the nicotine it wasn't really satisfying her. Now we are wondering how safe it would be for her to vape something like 12mg while breastfeeding.

We have read about some of the harmful effects of breastfeeding with cigarettes, but I personally think that most of the problems are rooted in all the chemicals in the cigarettes rather than just the nicotine. Any knowledgeable answers would be greatly appreciated. :vapor:

From the article- (which was only 15 women I think)

CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that the absolute infant dose of nicotine and its metabolite cotinine decreases by about 70% from when subjects were smoking or using the 21-mg patch to when they were using the 7-mg patch. In addition, use of the nicotine patch had no significant influence on the milk intake by the breast-fed infant. Undertaking maternal smoking cessation with the nicotine patch is, therefore, a safer option than continued smoking

I don't know how a 7 mg patch compares with something like a 6 mg liquid.

First congratulations on having a baby!
I cannot answer this and say it is ok but I would think as long as your not inhaling smoke
and all the chemicals that go into cigarettes you have to be quite a bit better off.
As you know most drugs will be delivered to the baby through breastfeeding.
I would ask my OB/GYN what he thinks first and also ask him if he's opposed to nicotine see if he can tell you what harm could it do to the baby realistically.
If he feels you absolutely shouldn't ask him which he would rather see you do?
Have a cig or vape? If possible try and do without.

C.B. I have yet to talk to one doctor that is opposed to vaping. Every single doctor I've spoken to about it (and it's been a lot) have all had positive things to say regarding vaping over smoking. Most even say they recommend it to their patients. And I'm not alone, many people on the board say this.

In a way it makes me angry. Why haven't any of these doctors spoken out and gone on record. It really makes you wonder.

Thank you everyone for the replies. That article was very informative. I agree that asking her doctor would be a good thing to do, and I will be sure to bring that up at her next appointment. The only reason I have not asked her sooner is I had figured that most doctors would be misinformed/uneducated about vaping as a whole and I would get a biased answer.
