Well, most of us would agree that vaping in most all forms, is healthier when compared to smoking. This thread is not about comparing vaping to smoking. (no long term studies, blah blah vaping will kill you etc.) Most of us would agree that vaping is healthier otherwise we wouldnt be doing it. My question is, has there been any solid studies done to compare VG to PG in relation to health, or has there not been enough studies in that area as well? If not, what is your opinion? VG vs PG, VG is smoother and produces more vapor, PG is thinner, produces more throat hit and more flavor(?) with less vapor.

I am weening myself down from nicotine levels, started at 36 when i started vaping years ago, now im down to 12mg base and usually cut it down to around 8-10mg. I am thinking the lower I go, the more PG i will eventually be using for the throat hit because ive tried 100%VG and I cannot just vape that, It lliterally just feels like breathing in air to me, which just leads me to chainvaping constantly and using more juice. I am not looking to give up vaping, im just aiming to possibly cut down to 3-6mg, and was just wondering what everyones opinion or if anyone knows any facts on health of VG vs PG?

Moved to General E-Liquid from General Vaping discussion. Might be better suited to this area of the forum.

I have not heard of any studies in regards to one over the other. The only things I have heard are that some are allergic to PG and that is why they vape high VG liquids. I have heard of others that say that VG makes their lungs feel heavy.

There are liquid vendors that do make 100% VG liquids for those that cannot tolerate PG. Even the flavor carrier is VG based.

Your best bet is to go back to getting samples with different ratios of PG/VG to find what suits you for flavor and throat hit.

You don't really want everyone's opinion do you??

I haven't seen anything. Just like you said,
VG- more vapor, but I'm with you on the no substance part.
PG- better throat hit, easier to stealth vape. Doesn't seem to gum up my car windows in the winter...
Then there are those who can't do one or the other for whatever reason.
And those that still insist that one is better than the other for everyone. Usually VG newbies.

Of all I researched this was the most substantial study concerning VG: The safety of vegetable glycerin (VG) when inhaled through an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette). Studies on the effect of the inhalation of vegetable glycerin through a personal vaporizer.

It's a good read and put my mind at ease back when I first started vaping. Also, I cannot vape PG even in low concentrations of 5-10% will make me break out in itchy rashy hives. I've also heard some who say vaping 100% VG makes their lungs feel heavy and they get sick. The trick is to find what works for you, whatever blend you can vape consistently and without issue.

The truth is nobody really "knows," but we sure as {Moderated} know when something doesn't agree with us. I'd say that I don't see much difference between the way VG and PG is metabolized (into C02 and H20) via the lungs as they are both very similar in chemical composition while one is a derivative of palm tree oil (VG) and the other is an organic byproduct of biodiesel or derived from glycerol (PG).

They are both simple sugars with very low toxicity. At least is my understanding, anyone with facts feel free to chime in.

I itch like crazy at anything over 20% PG, yeah. Also I can tell it's dehydrating, I didn't need to be told, yikes. I'm sticking at 80/20 VG/PG, because it's what works for me. My doc doesn't seem terribly concerned over either one, especially once he realized most asthma inhalers are suspended in PG, and he insisted that if you get too much VG in the lungs, they'll just cough it out eventually. Other than that he had nothing to say except for being thrilled that it's not smoking. If he's thrilled, I'm thrilled!
