So I never really thought of it before because I love good flavor, but there is always that concern of unknown ingredients in the juice. Even if I DIY and know what flavorings are going into it, I don't know what chemicals make up those flavors.

So I started vaping flavorless today. Just PG and nic right now. It's not bad. Better than bad flavors, a bit bland of course. I could do this. I think.

Anyone out there vape flavorless only?

Anyone out there vape flavorless only?

i did when i first starting vaping for the same reasons. with flavored juices being so inconsistent lately, i think 'why bother?'. thanks for the reminder. I have 250 ml of 50 mg of xtremevaping.com that i've barely touched. i could cut that and have plenty of juice.

i think a lot of allergies that crop up with me are flavor related. it just gets to be a real bother. there are several flavorless vapers around on the forum. some will chime in i'm sure.

The more I vape it the more it just tastes like bottled water to me. I'm noticing that the straight PG & nic has a heavier throat hit than the same mix flavored. I'm wondering if flavoring somehow mitigates some of the effect PG has in sucking moisture out of the air. Maybe the increased TH is from the drying action of the PG?

I'll have to try adding in some VG and see where that gets me, though the point was to limit the number of ingredients.

Many, granted not all, flavors are in a PG base, so if your base is 95% PG and 5% flavoring, there is a distinct possibility it is 100% PG. Also, some swear that they get their throat hit from the nic, so depending on what level you've got, it's a possibility.

Since we don't know the specific recipes, we don't know exactly what all goes into a vendor's juice. It may be PG, VG, flavoring, enhancers, sweeteners, etc. The flavors may not so much dissipate the throat hit as distract you from it.

I thought my allergy symptoms were flavor related too, for a little while. Then while eliminating things found it was PG after all. Went to 70/30 and 8-/20 VG to PG and problems are gone.
And yes I am starting to mix my own so I know what I am getting at least most of it and I cam make taste like I want it to.

Why not buy your own flavors and you can control all that goes into your juice?

Because of the unknown compounds that make up the flavoring. The flavoring will have a base of PG or whatever, but it may contain some unknown compounds that make up the flavor itself, whether they are listed as "natural" or "artificial" flavoring. For example, butter flavors (butter mint, butterscotch, buttered rum?) are likely to have diacetyl or substitute of a similar compound. I'm not so hard core that I won't use flavors, but that is the "why?" in a nutshell.

Pretty extreme maybe considering the old smoker's line "gotta die someway, might as well enjoy it". I guess it depends on whether the important part of the experience is the nic or the flavor, or to what degree one or the other matters to you anyway.

Alright, I see this thread is dead, but I'd like to know if anyone else gets the TH from vaping a flavorless PG based e-liquid.

I've continued vaping flavorless and now I'm sure that the TH is definitely from the drying action of the PG sucking all the moister out of your throat and causing a TH feeling. This stuff is seriously drying me out compared to flavored stuff. I added 10% VG but I don't think it was enough. If you are someone who thinks regular juices dry you out, this probably isn't for you. I can feel the back of my tongue and my throat go dry right away when I vape this mix - I'm using 5 volts on a Premium/Turbo/Gold Label (i.e. LR) cartomizer so its a pretty good cloud of pretty much pure PG and it is sucking me dry.

I'm good with the flavorless, it actually tastes just fine (most flavors aren't all that strong anyway), but the drying action may be a little much for constant use if I don't find a fix that doesn't involve more than 15% VG or so.

I've tried flavorless. Not a fan really. Nicotine does have a taste... hard to describe... Try just plain PG (if you aren't allergic) and then PG nic-juice. Taste the flavor difference? Anyway....

When concerned about flavors, I DIY with a simple lemon or lime water soluble flavoring. I know lemon juice is used in cooking all the time, and that heat (of a fry pan, or hot oil) is high. So, for me, I figure WTF. Might as well flavor it.

As for the TH, I add VG to lessen it. IDK if VG or PG are going to be found to be problematic in the future, but if it is too nasty, I could slip back to analogs and that would be WORSE. The nic level is the biggest factor for me, adding flavor or VG or even PG dilutes the nic level and lessens TH.
