well I've had 2 in the 4 months I've been vaping (one after another). now I'm quite a heavy cold sore sufferer so that's not bad. I'm not a scientist but I would say there are a number of factors that would need to be taken into account to determine whether it is down to vaping causing it or ingredients or something else. ask yourself some questions: do you feel ill or run down? are you letting your lips dry out and therefore licking them more? was there something you ever ate and got a cold sore not long after? mine was always after a pot noodle, I have no idea what triggered it but always seemed to get one right after eating them. how often are you cleaning your products? I could go on and on with these questions..............but I won't lol.

I know my main reason for getting cold sores is because I am run down/ill............when I first started vaping a went through the "quitters flu", and felt pretty crappy. I also don't drink enough fluid to keep me hydrated, leaving my lips dry and therefore i tend to lick them. It's amazing typing this and pointing out that I know exactly what causes mine and yet I still get them because I can't make a few changes to my daily routine :(

I have been vaping for a little over a month and have a 1 cold sore. I was not sick either, but stress will bring them on too, and possibly because i did let a few people try my pv. Now i just bring a extra cart and let them use that.

yeah I totally missed the stress factor............well pointed out rpriode

Jackoboy, I guess I got a mild case of the quitters flu after switching over to vaping. So I can see getting the first one, but it seemed to stick around longer than usual. Then, just the other day, after the scab fell off of the the first one (gross, I know...), I got a tingle and another one popped up! I really hope it's not the vaping causing this because I enjoy this better than smoking...

I also get alot of cold sores but since I quit smoking I went all winter without any. I had them the first few months of vaping then they finally went away. I always made sure I used alcohol to wipe all my mouhthpeices off and the batteries also a few times a day. I also used camphophenic (however its spelled) It dries out the sore and numbs it. I tried all that abreva stuff but it did not work for me. I think it has something to do with detoxing after smoking. It took several weeks after I started vaping for me to stop getting them then they just went away and I had less this year then ever.

I have been vaping over two years and have been totally cigarette free two years next month. I have vaped both PG and VG and combinations of the two.

Over these last two years, I have had some cold sores or blemishes is more what they seem to me. Being 59, I don't get the "teenage" blemishes any longer, but I do get these from time to time, but they are not nearly as bad to me as the side effects of smoking, so I just put on a little Carmex and a little cover stick if going somewhere, just to cover it a little and they go away quickly, a couple of days.

I have started cleaning my drip tips a little more often, and wiping down the cartos I sometimes use, and it does seem to help make the blemishes a little less frequent.

I have heard from some others that they think it also could be effected by the drying of the membranes around the mouth.

What I do know for certain in my case is that they are not serious or anything that would keep me from vaping. And if I drink more water, I don't seem to get as many either.

was the second one worse? I had exactly the same thing when I first started vaping. first one was a small one, maybe a warning that im about to explode, but I didnt take the proper precautions with it, then the second one came right after and was a monster. I put a compeed patch on the beauty! seemed to clear up fast enough. just maybe the second one was because it wasn't out of your system? as a teen I always had cold sores, throughout the winter I would always have 3 or 4 at a time, once managing to have them all the way around my mouth, touching in a ring. man what a convo...............yuk yuk! lol. I know a year xmas just gone I got a bad batch because I was way too dehydrated at work, and was constantly going through different climates at work, cold and frosty outside, warm and dry inside, damp, moist and cold in the chiller!

No, Jacko, they both about the same size. I used abreva on the first one but it lasted a while. I'm going to make sure I stay dehydrated and I'm trying campho-phenique this time. I've never had them very bad, even as a kid or teen, which is why it is very distressing to get two back-to-back. But I won't stress about it, because I know that won't help it go away!

Thanks all!

Cold sores are caused by a virus. It isn't necessary to become (newly) exposed to the virus to develop a sore. Once you have had one cold sore, the virus can stay dormant in your body for the rest of our life. Yes, stress can trigger the outbreak of a sore because stress lowers your body's infection-fighting ability.

Nicotine withdrawal can trigger anxiety, so you might try increasing the strength of the e-liquid you are using or to supplement nicotine intake by using one of the NRT products in addition to vaping.

I have found that if I begin treatment of an outbreak at the first sign of a tingle, I can halt the infection in its tracks. The longer I let it go before starting to treat it, the worse the outbreak is for me. Here is a write-up on the life-cycle of a cold sore by GlaxoSmithKline. I'm always a little reluctant to mention this because I always either encounter arguments or people never follow through with the advice, but for over 35 years I have known a sure-fire remedy to stop cold sores in their tracts. It was taught to me by an old country doctor.
It has worked so well that a few years ago I finally called the Medical College of Georgia and asked one of the doctors there why they never prescribe it for oral herpes treatment.
I was told that it works for me because I use it correctly, but that too many patients would use it incorrectly and make their conditions worse.
The trick is to apply it as soon as you get that little "itch" and the cold sore process will be arrested and stopped in its tracks - you won't get the lesion.
If, however, you apply it after the cold sore has formed a blister or the blister has popped and is forming a scab, this remedy is no longer a remedy. It will at this stage help spread the virus on your lip and increase the area where they are likely to form in the future. That's why doctors don't like to see it used for cold sores.
As soon as I know I'm about to get a cold sore, I apply it and the cold sore never happens. Period.
The medicine is a corticosteroid called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, 0.1%
I get the generic, but it is sold by prescription only and often under the brand name "Kenalog Cream".
The exact way that it acts against most causes of inflammation is not known, but it is thought to slow or stop the chemicals in the body that cause inflammation. This halts the entire process of the cold sore's formation.
Do with this information what you will. I'm just sharing it because it works for my family.
I am NOT a medical professional and am NOT giving medical advice. I recommend speaking about this with your doctor before trying it.

Google "cold sores after quit smoking" and you'll find thousands of references. It seems to be a common side effect (for people who have been exposed to the virus) to get cold sores or canker sores a few weeks after quitting. I wouldn't be surprised if the toxins in smoke kill the virus. Now that you aren't smoking, it's kicking in.

A small number of people who stop smoking are affected by chemical changes in their mouths and may suffer minor problems including blisters, sores, and inflammation. For years, your mouth has had to withstand the endless attacks of hot smoke, so it can handle the sores. They’ll go away in a few days.

Here is a whole thread talking about it: http://www.mouthulcers.org/messages.php?thread=249&page=2

Apparently, cold sores and canker sores have different causes.

Carless, that is interesting info. To bad it's script only. I can't remember the last time I got a cold sore, but I do remember how aggravating they were/are for those that get them. I'd certainly try to get a script if I had that issue frequently. I do recall the feeling you're talking about and will copy and paste your post for future reference or to give to anyone that I run across that has an ongoing issue.
