When I was in my early 20s, I worked at a gas station. After the second car/pump fire I saw, I'd just hit the cut off switch every time some jerk was smoking at the pump. While the e-cig isn't a hazard like a cigarette is, if I were to mistake the vapor for smoke at the distance that might be from the cash register to the pumps, I'd hit the cut off switch. You would end up coming in to ask what's up with the no gas and if your credit card went through on whatever you were able to pump before I saw it and hit the button.... I'd call you an idiot for smoking at the pump - you would feel compelled to explain about e-cigs... and everyone else who got cut off would be giving you dirty looks the whole time.

Seems like a giant waste of time to me.

Every mechanical mod makes a spark in the switch when you hit the button. I'm using a Reo at 0.4 ohms right now and all I have to do is slide the door down a bit and I see it clearly. The amount of spark it produces is actually quite impressive. It does make less of a spark at lower power levels.

I leave my mod in the car when I fill up. Works for me :thumb:

Most gas pump fires are caused by static electric discharge near the pump nozzle and gas tank where vapor can mix to the right ratio for combustion. Getting in and out of your car while pumping can cause you to build up a static charge. (You should always ground yourself after getting out of your car before you start pumping gas.) While it is probably unlikely you could produce a spark where the vapors are concentrated enough, it is probably safer to just leave your PV in the car while you pump your gas.

True story: my grandparents owned a campground with the only gas pump on the lake within a 20 mile radius. So naturally we got all the boaters, fishermen, in the area to come to us. One Saturday, two inebriated rednecks were filling a portable gas tank and they weren't sure how close they filled their tank, so one of them lit a lighter to check.

Yes. Fill in the rest. Needless to say, it takes a good solid five to six minutes for an ambulance to make it to the campground.

Vaping while at the pump will prolly never cause a fire.

But.

Why take a chance
Why possibly freak others
Why would anyone want to anyway

I personally don't vape while at the gas station because regardless the vape, the specific station and any and all other variables when I do vape while at a gas station I always get the taste of gas. Mind I'm in Oregon so we can't pump our own. Always remain in the truck when getting a fill. I can have the windows up tight and I taste gasoline if I vape. So I don't.

While it may usually be safe, since the air fuel mix has to be just right, smoking a cig is also usually safe. But all it takes is once...

And the perception of others is, to me, a bigger reason to NOT vape while pumping gas. Why give them more ammo against us? Rude smokers, imo, are one of the reason's for so many bans on where one can smoke. Enough rude vapers and we're going to get the same treatment. Heck, they're already doing that....

In a properly operating vape unit, the coil never even gets red, let alone hot enough to ignite gasoline vapors. If you get looked at funny, drop some science on the ....ers who dont know how it works. The second they understand, the gas station will blow up.

Yeah, the gas station will blow up.....WITH KNOWLEDGE!

I guess is one is refueling a semi truck with 2 500 gallon tanks, then maybe, but if one can't simply wait 3 minutes, perhaps they need the vape mod I am thinking of having made. It is akin to those oxygen devices those with lung issues wear. It would have an automatic vaporizer and hold 1 gallon of e-liquid. Simply turn it on and put in the nostril tubes and one can vape continuous and hands-free for hours...
