Hi folks! I'm new to the forum.

I use two different sub ohm devices, the Kanger Nebox and the Kanger cupti with kanthal and stainless steel coils, respectively. I am cutting down on my cigarette smoking and I am down to half a pack a day from my old habit of two packs a day.

In the morning when I get up I haven't had nicotine all night, and would like to vape right when I get up. However, the vape tastes awful and harsh that time of day for some reason. I understand that one is not supposed to use full nicotine strength juice in sub ohm devices, but by far, in most of my waking hours I am satisfied with the vape and it tastes smooth without any burnt or harsh taste. Also, occasionally in the late evening I experience the same thing.

Does anybody else have this issue? Or any thoughts on why this might be?

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

as to your question, if you are still smoking then this is probably why you are having this difficulty. I quit very quickly, it only took me two weeks to quit, but if you have cigarettes it messes with your taste buds as well as your throat.

Once you are completely off cigarettes for about two weeks, without so much as even one cigarette, all your problems will go away with taste and how harsh vaping seems in the morning. For some reason that harshness goes away once you are completely done with cigarettes, and of course your taste buds heal and you begin to taste things the way they actually are again in about the same length of time.

Thanks for your replies. I've tried very mellow flavor vapes, and it doesn't seem to help. The lower PG might help however, as I always use a 50/50 mix. I usually is tobacco flavors, and the vanilla tobacco flavor from MBV is very mellow. I'm thinking it might have to do with caffeine, as the first thing I do in the morning is down two cups of hot coffee. Then the vape tastes fine.

If your still smoking cigarettes trust me, its the smokes. For harshness go with a 80vg/20pg mix, that is easier on your throat in general, and keep your nic as low as you can, while still getting enough nic.

Your best bet is to go through the withdrawals and vape through them. It's a hard three to 5 days, but if you can get through that your done. Then if you have small cravings over the next week or two, just vape through them. After two weeks of not smoking, you don't have anymore cravings.

I know some people want to recreate the tobacco flavor, but I found the most helpful for me was not to do that, but rather find some flavors I really liked (dessert flavors that were strong in flavor, not mild) and get away from the taste of tobacco.. you might actually find that more helpful in quitting tobacco.

the bad taste in your mouth is your smokes.. that takes days to get rid of, even if you think you are, you probably aren't rid of that bad cigarette taste.. it sticks around for a while after you quit.. more than just a few hours..what your coffee is doing is helping to cleanse your pallet.

I really, really dislike food flavors in the morning. I brush my teeth (so now my mouth is all minty), then all I want is coffee and a smoke. Only I don't smoke anymore, but the fruit/bakery/sweet flavors of my ADV are somewhat nauseating. So I have one setup just for morning, with a tobacco flavor. After an hour or so I start disliking the tobacco flavor, so then I switch over to my fruit/bakery kind of flavor. The rest of the day I don't like tobacco, so that's saved for the mornings only.

You'll get used to the morning harshness. In the meantime, try lowering the watts, and maybe not inhale too deeply. You can absorb nicotine without inhaling, just hold it in your mouth, maybe exhale through your nose of that doesn't bother you.

An enlightening question and responses. I've noticed the same with myself and since I'm not yet done with the smokes I've found having a cig in the morning clears the way for vaping from that point on. I've noticed the same with herb that if I'm coughing having a cig reduces the coughing considerably. I wonder if one of those many chemical compounds in cigs weren't intentionally added to keep the coughs & harshness at bay. Nay, big tobacco wouldn't do that to us would they?

And here I thought I was the only one. :thumb:
I start my morning off with some Reds, a tobacco flavor I dilute down with some unflavored, with my coffee. Then I switch out for some coffee cake flavor to get me through the morning.

Oh - they most definitely were added! A particular class of 'flavourings' that were permitted to be added to tobacco were specifically for the purposes of anesthetizing the airways to make smoking more 'smooth'.

My experience was that you needed to ease your lungs into it in the same way you did when you smoked. When i woke and smoked, i'd not chainsmoke 5 straight off because it'd send me into a paralysis of coughing. i'd take gentle little puffs.
At 11 am, well, different animal and hammer them to death with no problem.

Same with vaping. i don't want lung-busting video-worthy plumes at 6am, but gentle little puffs with all the airflow closed. Until 11am when...

As for the flavour - well, vaping right after cleaning my teeth ruined every flavour except menthol really, so see how you go. You could also not clean your teeth, so you'd have a direct comparison to the day before, but expect pariah status.

I've always noticed that my wicking absorbs moisture or something overnight and doesn't taste right until I get the juice that was on the wicking vaped off and fresh juice from the tank in it; I also find it insanely incredibly easy to burn my wicks in the morning on tanks until this is done, RDA's aren't as bad because of obvious reasons(vape dry before bed, fresh ejuice in the morning)

Just some food for thought!

When I smoked the two best smokes of the day were the last thing at night and the first thing in the morning drags. I smoked a pipe and Gawd that first drag and inhale of the morning hit like a runaway train and got me wide awake; frankly I'd feel cheated if my first vape of the day didn't do the same!

Genuinely not extracting the Michael btw....
