Vanilla? Really? Are vanilla recipes that scarce? It's used in a ton of recipes with tobaccos and other flavors, but finding true vanilla recipes with any deep, rich, slightly sweet flavor is proving to be tough. I asked before for recipe suggestions, here goes another attempt. Anyone? Vanilla?

here's what I have for stock: here's what I have so far in diy vanilla flavorings: LA Bavarian cream, FA Custard, FS Holy Vanilla, FW Madagascar Vanilla, FA Vanilla Tahiti, TFA Vanilla Cupcake, FS Nilly Bean Ice cream, TFA Vanilla Bourbon, TFA Vanilla Swirl, TFA French Vanilla. In vendors pre mixed I have tried about half a dozen, done throwing money away on stuff I could have mixed myself. so far, nothing great. so-so at best.

I think the secret must be mixing several vanilla flavors together with say a drop of coffee, choc, or pralines plus em. I have been working on it for ages. Have you tried the holy vanilla from the diy shack- that was going to be my next try? I use it mainly as a mixer and have been using the Highbrow vapor decadent vanilla bean. It works the best so far but is expensive.

yep, agreed, it's in the combinations and that drop of coffee. although lately I use cappuccino instead of coffee. I used bourbon and tahitian together and also the holy vanilla with vanilla cupcake. I have tried to use the french vanilla also in combination but got a funky taste with it. also tried whipped cream with them. how well does chocolate work with vanillas? does it "deepen" the flavor like coffee? have a couple here on hand that I could try. Any recipe or suggestions of combinations?

:)

Here's a couple recipes for you, if you haven't tried something like these yet:

Vanilla Cupcake
12% Vanilla Cupcake
6% Vanilla Swirl
3% Cotton Candy
(Sweeten more to taste)
Note: On the vanilla ... you can use ANY Vanilla you want.

Creamy Vanilla
12% Vanilla (any you want is okay)
12% Bavarian Cream
Sweeten to taste

I think the "secret" of a Vanilla recipe is to let them steep ... and I almost always add Cotton Candy (EM) to (most) every recipe. :)

My favorite vanillas are: Holy Vanilla by DIYFlavorshack and Vanilla Swirl by TFA. (Of course Bavarian Cream is a given).

Hope this helps. :)

I just got the double choc clear to try think that will be one of my next mixes. I also wondered about a little caramel or toffee. I always use em in all my mixes too. My french vanilla didn't go well either. I would like to find an actual vanilla like the 32fold I've heard of to dilute but the expense would be prohibitive.

i have actually done the vanilla cupcake one but with Holy Vanilla instead of the vanilla swirl and without the sweetener.

i have a huge bottle of bavarian cream, but it almost has a "buttery" flavor to it I don't like.

thanks!

the double chocolate is good, I use it with whipped cream, almost like a chocolate milkshake. wonder if that double chocolate might be a good one to mix with vanilla. I am trying to get a rich tasting vanilla.

You're welcome. :)

Maybe try it with the Vanilla Swirl AND the Cotton Candy. IMO the Cotton Candy makes a BIG difference ... and steeping. :)

yea ive tried white chocolate as well as marshmallow with my vanilla mixs and both worked great.

I assumed it would go great together, it would just take some tweaking to find a lower amount to where the chocolate isn't shining through. I think once you get that right it would taste like a rich vanilla, without even tasting the chocolate.

no cotton candy on hand, but I do have liquid sweetener. think that will do the trick? the vanilla swirl is such a "faint" flavor, do you actually taste it? I'll give it a try, thanks so much, appreciate it.

that's exactly what I am after, a richer, deeper vanilla. I'll mix some up with a tiny bit of milk chocolate and/or double chocolate and see if that helps. I've been using coffee and cappuccino to do the same thing with, add some depth and richness, hopeing the chocolate will work well with it. thanks all!

That should help a little, and def. order some white chocolate on your next order if you don't have any already. I was thinking white chocolate because it wouldn't add as much or as strong of a chocolate flavor, but rather would add a little rich-n-sweet and some depth if used lightly, instead of adding in a chocolate taste like the other chocolates might.

You could try it ... but you might want to invest in some Cotton Candy on your next order ... chances are you WILL use it. And on the recipe, you can always increase the percentage a little on the vanilla swirl, too. But let it steep. :)
