For the past week this is all I get when I try and track mail: "Sorry, the tracking system is having technical difficulties. Please try your search again later."

It's not vapemail, but I figured so many people here use the tracker so much that I would come here and ask if anyone else is able to track anything? Its been doing this since Sunday for me, and one of the things I was trying to track has already arrived. Has the government shutdown sent home the USPS web guy or something?

Although it has seemed delayed, this morning I saw updates for 2 separate mailings on the USPS tracking site.

I've never gotten a "Sorry, the tracking system is having technical difficulties. Please try your search again later." message, though. It's always been the "can't find this tracking number" which is typical when the site hasn't gotten the official data yet.

Is this the link you're using:

https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input?strOrigTrackNum=

(with your tracking number appended)

I know that hoosierecig.com put a notice up on their website that they were having issues with certain orders and the USPS tracking system, so it must be a problem in more than one place.

I just tried through the link in your post, using one of my tracking numbers, and I get the same thing. So weird. Oh well I guess it I will pretend its the good old days before internet and just be surprised when my packages arrive, lol.

Im glad Im not the only one having problems. My package from Highbrow says it just departed Catano, Puerto Rico.

This very annoying.

Well for what its worth, you're getting more info than I am! Mine just keeps saying the site has technical problems and to try later, I'm getting no tracking info whatsoever.

USPS tracking is a joke, most of the time. I have had the 'technical difficulties' pop up many times. I have also had a package delivered before any tracking info was updated. All this well before the shut down ever happened. It's a matter of if they update the info online and they don't always do that in a timely manner.

In the increasingly hopeless attempts to locate my lost Vamo (mash here for my sob story), I've learned alot about the tracking process.

As it turns out, a lot of the entries you see in a tracking history aren't actual scans at all. For example, the last one you see in the forum post above is a system generated message. It is programmed into the system to show up exactly 14 hours after the "out for delivery" entry, which is itself a system generated scan. "System generated" means that it wasn't actually scanned by a human holding a scanner. It appears after a certain amount of time that the system assumes to be normal for that particular process.

Very few of the actual scanning entries are the result of a human actually scanning the package. Arrival at unit and delivered are two of those.

i have 4 packages incoming at the moment. all of them say "technical difficulties"

hope the mailman doesn't get too nervous while i watch his every move from my window for the next few days.

Do what I do, Go out side and wait for him/her, tell them you are waiting for a package and they'll be less suspicious of you! :):mail:

I actually talked to him this morning about 20 minutes ago and he said they have been having a lot of website issues because of the gov shutdown. He said if they don't show up on time then I should give it a extra day then head down to the local office with my tracking numbers and they can look up what's going on. Very helpful guy.
