I have the geekvape aegis solo.. The geekvape site says you can charge it via usb. Is this a thing now?

From what i understand (not an expert) It's more of a you can but you shouldn't type of situation.
You can charge it via usb if you're in a pinch but it's recommended you just swap batteries and use an external battery charger to charge your batteries.

Dang. I was hoping they evolved from that. I’ve never understood what is different about internal batts being ok, yet external batts need the special charger.

Think it has to do something with a possible battery imbalance if you charge it thru the usb port, apart from that it could result in lower life expectancy for the electronics in the mod.

External chargers will also tend to be more consistent with their charge, will take your battery to full with the appropriate voltage and not over charge.

I'm not sure but i read somewhere that DNA chips are the only ones that are good at charging using the usb port.
But all this is just stuff i have read about, personally i charge with an external charger, maybe someone more knowledgeable can chip in with some more info.

If you're out and about you can always use a mod with a built in battery so you don't have to carry an extra battery with you or maybe just use a mod that can fit a 21700 battery or even maybe a dual 18650 mod, with that you should have enough juice for your vaping needs.

Charging batteries in the mod using the usb port on the device is an option and in most cases will be fine to do so.

Bear in mind most of the mods/pods include the usb charging port BUT wont be the best option for your batteries. They are limited in their design and safety options and dont compete to the advanced circuitry in an external dedicated charger.

I would always opt to use an external charger to improve the life cycle of my batteries with the piece of mind it's being charged properly. If I need to charge my battery in the mod when I'm not near my charger then i would do for that particular time.

I am talking about most recent mods like 2 years ago models cause havent used older ones....

If we talk about single battery mods either is internal battery or external battery mod still charging it with usb produces some heat to the board that its good to avoid in my opinion if we want to try make it last longer but ofc in internal battery mods we dont have other option...

In double battery mods there is an issue of balanced charging sometimes but also because its 2 batteries the manufacturer is forced to apply high current to charge them fast enough so the boards take a lot of heat...so i wouldnt use usb charging to those....

I have some internal and external battery mods that i charge with usb but i notice they get pretty hot and what i do is....
i check their specs and if i see for example one internal battery mod charges at 1.5amps i choose to use a 1amp charger to charge it and that way ofc charge slower but ofc doesnt heat up as much....

The manufacturers sometimes care more to make the mod charge batteries faster than the mod to last longer...

But in my opinion i think newods are capable of charging with usb but its also about how lucky u are cause u see people use same mod for years but others have problems...

    :D

Good point about dual external batteries, in this instance I would ALWAYS charge them in a dedicated external charger.

USB charging is OK, but always be very gentle when inserting/removing the cord because the micro USB ports are delicate. If you damage them you can cause a short to the chip on the board, then you have a broke mod. Phil Busardo claimed in a video once that he always uses USB charging and never had a problem. Phil has a lot of mods because he was a high-profile reviewer for many years.

If USB charging is something you want to use, it may be a good idea to invest in a magnetic charging cable where you insert the micro USB end into the mod's Micro USB port and leave it there, then magnetically attach the cord's magnetic end to it for charging.

The downside to using a magnetic charging cable on a vape mod is that the Micro USB end will always stick out from the mod (about 3mm or so, this will vary from brand to brand) and may look unsightly and/or not feel good in the hand. However, since this is an Aegis Solo and the Micro USB port is underneath a silicone flap, the problem is that if you can even fit the magnetic USB end in there, the USB flap may not close. So this may not be an option for the Aegis Solo or for other mods with similar covered USB ports (but would depend on the shape and size of the Micro USB attachment end of the magnetic cable). In this case you'll just have to use it with a regular USB cable and just be gentle or use an external charger.

USB ports on 18650 mods have been "a thing" for many many years now.

I haven’t been vaping the last few years and off social media. Coming back to the neighborhood and nothing is familiar!
I can’t find things like mod bags or cool ... drip tips.

So it’s safe to do, but could end up damaging the mod. So that defeats the purpose really. I just like the convenience of plug in to charge. Mods with internal batteries eventually wear out.

Yes, Ive been there with vape, computers and phones lol.

Well mod bags and such went out of style, however you may want to look on eEtsy for some handmade ones. Someone might still make them.

If you want the widest selection of drip tips, Fasttech is the place. But it's really hard to shop for them as they have so many and their organization of them on their website isn't that great. Fasttech search: Drip Tip

You just have to be careful and gentle. That's not just with mods, but anything with a small usb port. Only difference is that these chinese vape mods to use cheaper parts than, say, smartphones, so you should use extra care.

Mods with internal batteries eventually wear out.

I agree. Given the state of things, integrated battery mods/pods are a foolish purchase.

The problem is that if you exclusively charge your mod via the usb, the port could wear out or break at some point.
Especially if my roommates 6 & 7 yr old grandsons are involved in the process..

I wasn’t sure you could still buy from fasttech with the usps vape ban.

I guess I could always buy two of the same mod, usb charge one and know I have a backup.

I have the aegis legend 26650 and the battery is old, you can definitely tell when vaping the same juice, same tank, on a different mod.

vapesox was the .... years ago. I still have one. Maybe I can find a neoprene bag so some sort that will do the trick. Like for a camera lens or something. Or a makeup bag. Anyway…

    Appreciate the feedback.

The USPS ban hasn't slowed the Chinese sellers down any. They aren't even bothering with the adult signature verification requirement of the PACT act.
