In an effort to see if I can step down in nicotine strength to none at all (started vaping 12mg and have been buying 6 since November 2013), I bought Cuttwood's Unicorn Milk v2 and Grimm Creation's Vanilla Custard recently with no nicotine. I sampled both on my rda and found the flavors to be muted from their 6mg nicotine versions of the same flavors. It was sorta like drinking Coke before, then switching to Diet Coke; the flavor was recognizable, but not as strong. Just me or is there science behind it?

I think it has more to do with the lack of throat hit in 0mg juices. Depending on your delivery system, 0mg juices can be rather unfullfilling due to the lack of a real throat hit.

I have found some solace in using kayfun RBA's. They produce amazing flavor and in my experience make up for the lack of a Throat hit.

I made 4 batches of different flavors with a 0 nicotine content. They all didn't taste that great at first. It seemed it took them weeks of steeping before they tasted OK. Now they are 5 weeks old and all 4 of them taste not to bad. I don't know if it the nicotine in a juice that helps it steep quicker or what. All I know is the juice I made up took along time before it got to a point where I enjoy Vaping it. Just try putting the juice away for awhile and forget about it and try it at a later date.

^^^ All I vape is 0 nicotine juices and it does seem to alter the flavor in some way. I think nicotine has some effect on oxygen... Like it attracts it more or something. I've seen 2 juices of the same kind, one with nicotine and one without and they even look different. The 0 nicotine was clear and the one with nicotine was amber and I've seen red as well. Personally, I don't think it's so much about the throat hit because I have vaped nicotine juices to try because I was trying to get my dad to transition to vaping, and I didn't even inhale them... just let them sit in my mouth and there was a definite flavor difference.

To me, there's a huge difference between zero nicotine and 6mg. IMO, it acts as a flavor enhancer. Without it, I would compare it to a freshly opened coke and one that's been sitting open in the fridge for the last 3-5 days and has lost it's carbonation. Some have said that going higher on the voltage/wattage increases the sensation on zero nicotine liquids, but all I've found to be true is that it just makes it warmer. There's really no throat hit from just PG & VG, despite what others claim. That's my experience.

I've vaped 90/10, 70/30, 60/40, 50/50, 40/60 and 30/70 and none of them come close to reproducing the same feeling as a liquid with nicotine, even with the capsicum additive that some use to mimic throat hit without adding nicotine to the mix (or Flash from FlavourArt).

^^ I only use mechanicals ATM, but I do have a Hana Modz v3 on pre-order so I can't do anything about the wattage now. Just interesting to find it's not just me. The flavor isn't bad with 0 nic juices, but I honestly prefer the taste and flavor of the 6 nic. Since it's low and I'm not a mega chain vaper, I think I'll stick with "leaded vs. unleaded".
