Hello guys. I have right now two RTA devices, both of it very good ones in my opinion: an Asmodus Voluna V2 and a Geekvape Zeus X. I really, really like both a lot, very big clouds and great flavour. But as a good compulsive vaper, I'm kind of obsessed with svoemesto ant it's Kayfuns, mainly the kayfun 5, which I read is a very good RTA.

The question, however, is price and difficult to buy it where do I live. Actually I would have to pay a lot for it, and wait a long time to have it in hands. So, I ask you: is this device worth an extra work I'll have to have in order to buy it? What's the main differences between it and the cheaper devices I have already? I'll really feel so much improvements to justify the difference in price? Any inputs in these matters would be much appreciated

For me, the K5 is an extraordinary atty. I’ve been using it every day since 2016 . Of course, being a high end atomizer build quality an materials are great. I also like how it looks despite being a rather large atomizer. I’m a MTL vaper so I use the K5 at the tighter setting (a relatively loose MTL that I got used to).

I really love how the K5’s quiet and turbulence-Free draw (it is really smooth). Don’t care about large amounts of vapor since I prefer good flavor

But that just me. If you like DL and large plumes of vapor maybe the K5 is not for you (or get the K5 squared as I understand fits better DL vapers needs).

My K5 setup is a 1.2 - 1.4 ohm coil (kanthal 28g, 2.5 mm) and vape a 60vg 40 pg liquid (12mg) at 12 Watts

@Tomasius74 hit it on the button. This in not an atty that is for DL or clouds. It is a loose MTL and restricted DL atty at best. I would recommend you look in to a different RTA if you are looking for anything close to what you already have. The Reload RTA is a very nice high end dual coil atty that might suite your vaping style.

If you want a RL/loose MTL, that's exactly what you'll get. The flavor is not as intense as the more "traditional" Kayfuns, IMO, but the deck is big enough for other types of builds/wire.

Personally, I would buy a SJMY V5 clone for about $25, if still available. More than one reviewer and owners of SvoeMesto V5s agree that the SJMY is even better than the original. I own one and it's impeccable. If you want to try a clone first I'll be happy to link you to some reputable online vendors. If you live in Berlin there are even German warehouses owned by Chinese Vape companies which would make your wait a lot shorter.

I guess everything really IS subjective. I found the K5 to be very much a dL rta. That’s why so many true, old school kayfun lovers hated it. It was SvoeMestos attempt to fit in with all the other dL attys that were flooding the market at the time. Wide open, it was restricted dL and closed off, it was a very loose mtl. That’s why they eventually released airflow reducers to make it mtl. The problem was, the deck and the chamber didn’t lend themselves to mtl vaping.

The kayfun lite 2019 is a true mtl that can be opened up to a very loose mtl. It’s far tighter wide open than the K5 was closed all the way down. Both rtas have excellent flavor and smooth, quiet airflow.

All that being said, if you’re very happy with what you’re using, I’d save your money. The K5 is certainly more restricted than the rtas you’re happy with.

I personally didn't find the V5 to have the intense flavor of a traditional MTL KF but yes, AF is smooth and the one I received was machined perfectly.

@vimagreg seems to be enjoying his DL RTAs but says he's obsessed with Kayfuns so I'm not sure how to address his needs/concerns. I feel the same way you do, that Kayfun was trying to appease the DL crowd with their V5. It's a well designed tank but, IMO, misses the purpose of both. Just my personal experience/opinion.
The problem was, the deck and the chamber didn’t lend themselves to mtl vaping.
Totally agree.

Thanks for all responses. I've read all with immense interest.

My interest is in trying something different. As I said I'm quite new in this RTA world, and if, for one side, I'm really happy with my two RTAs (more with the Voluna V2 than with Zeus X), for another side I'm interested in trying something new and different.

There's one thing you said that touched me, though: AF. I'm realising I like more soft AF, mainly because of my pods experience. I have, too, 2 very different pod systems: a Breeze 2 and an Orion. The Breeze 2 have a much more restrict AF, and because of that I find myself using and enjoying Orion much more. Maybe I should look for more open AF, based on that.

Unfortunately I don't live in Berlin yet, I'm in the moving process (looking for jobs, learning German and so on). This makes my choice much more difficult, since it's almost impossible to find any premium vape gear in the country do I live - Brazil. And, I must say, one of the reasons I'm kind of obsessed with SvoëMesto is because its products aren't Chinese, but German ones. I have nothing against Chinese gears, I just would like to know some non-Chinese ones, their machining and functioning. But, based on what you said, maybe Kayfuns aren't for me after all...

@vimagreg The only Kayfun I could think of that might work for you is the Kayfun 5. It has the most air flow of all their RTAs. I have been a loyal SvoeMesto user for almost 4 years now. Just got their newest Lite last month and am enjoying it very much. If you can find a clone of the KF5 you should get it and try it.

SvoeMesto is a Russian design manufactured in Germany. There are also other European designed/manufactured RTAs that you could look into. We're talking pricey but well made. Here's an RTA thread that might interest you:

The KF5² might be better if a DL tank is what the op is looking for.

Nothing wrong with the Kayfun 5. At the time it had a lot to live up to due to the previous K4 being something of a nightmare and having nearly as many parts as a small car. The issue for many was that the K5 abandoned it's MTL roots at least in many people's eyes. Many manufacturer's followed the trend at the time of more airflow which was what they felt people wanted. Vaporart did much the same with their Heron V2 which was a totally different vape to the previous model.

In terms of construction I can't fault the K5, it's solid, weighty and overly tall but it makes up for that by having a good capacity, which can be increased to 5ml with the barrel section (separate purchase). Flavour is good but imho it loses a lot of the subtleties of some juice but it's perfectly fine if you vape stronger flavours like Red Astaire and Heisenberg. Most fruit flavours are typically good in it but slightly muted sometimes, but custard comes across as lacking for me. Tobacco is generally okay but I've always preferred those juices in the Taifun.

Airflow is very loose and it will suit someone who likes a slightly restrictive lung hit or a very loose MTL experience. Even with the airflow reducer I still find a bit much on the smallest setting. Vapour output is respectable but the K5 is not a cloud chucker, its more generous vapour without fogging out the room and upsetting other people. If you can find one cheap enough and can get a couple of spare parts packs it should last you ages.
