i read that....on average....an open snus can...unrefrigerated, room temperature....can last around 7 days. and storing unopened, vaccum-sealed cans in the freezer can last a few years.

now.....i read if snus get a bit dry...it can be rehydrated with a spray of water or an apple or lemon wedge and put in the fridge for a few days. does this apply to both pouches and los?

how long will an open can last....refrigerated?

i would like to know because i currently have 7 cans open. i have more cans coming in different flavors and i would like to try them. i keep them refrigerated all the time when i can and only take out cans i will use for the day and return them to the fridge at night.

if it were up to me i would open them all and try at my leisure. my pouch consumtion is currently 6 to 8 pouches a day...who knows could go up.

these questions may be geared toward veteran snusers since they have more first hand experience.

I just can't seem to get the number of open cans I have in the fridge at any given time under 6. Variety thing...

I had a can of Roda Lacket WP in the fridge that was in there for just over 3 months since it had been opened. Last portion seemed fine.

Can of Macchiato currently at 2 months and it's good as well.

It shouldn't ever mold C. They use a mix of PG andH2O for moisture and PG is anti-bacterial, plus over time the water would evaporate out of it, leaving only the PG. Eventually, it'd just dry up and stay that way until re-hydrated or collects moisture in a humid environment. Only then is there a possibility of mold.

I re-hydrated a Lab 02 portion I found in my truck. Probably been there since December and looked like a piece of tree bark. I let it set in a can with a little water for a couple hours and I can't say it lost any flavor or nic. If it did, it was very little.

Loose snus is one for Stubby. I've read using a spray bottle to mist it, mix it up a bit and let it set for a day. I'm afraid I'd end up with mud. I'm interested in the best method, too. I plan an a rather large stock of a few los.

im hoping there would be an odor letting us know that its no good.

has anyone here have snus go bad from old age yet? how did you know it went bad?

Shouldn't be any off odors. Fermentation (spoiling) is all that would cause it. Now, if you had some dried snus that you soak in water, then let set in a hot car for a couple weeks, I 'spose it's a possibility. Nothing can spoil without water in some amount.

Yup, it just dries out. I remember my friends in Sweden finding old cans of snus behind a sofa or under a car seat--they would just spray them with spring water to remoisten, stick them in the fridge for a couple hours and that was it. Good as new. But I was a smoker then and I didn't pay attention. I thought snus was gross. Little did I know... :D

I had several cans in the fridge for a few years, not sealed at all, and they were bone-dry when I pulled them out. Liberal application of water via a spray bottle helped a lot, although after a few years, they had lost some flavourings, although not their main tobacco flavour.

Alex, I use your story often since you've stored opened snus the longest of anyone I know of ;).
